Good Morning Oppo,

I’m selling my M104 swapped 190e. I’ve sold many old cars in the past, but most were in the low four digit price range, unlike this one. This one’s price is $14,000 (slightly negotiable of course).

My question is: Have you successfully sold an old(er) expensive niche car? If so, what kind of tips do you have in selling such a car?

I understand that in this case it will take a person specifically interested in a car like this and one that wants it bad enough to justify paying somewhat of a premium, although clean 16v’s have jumped in value in the past year or two.

Thanks in advance.

14k?!? Wow... I had absolutely no idea cars like this could pull that kind of scratch. The previous owner purchased it for 2600, and he said he put about 10k into it, and you not only can recoup all that but then some? Crap I need to ditch my Mitsubishi habit! :D

The only advice I can offer is plenty of nice pictures with a decent DSLR, aaaaaaaand patience. A lot of my fellow GVR4 brethren think our cars are worth a ton and a few of them pull what some ask (on the high side) but the only way that happens is if they keep it out there forever and wait for that perfect mark.

I want it badly.. You should have no problem selling it on a forum or maybe as an eBay auction.

Your car looks pretty clean from the photos but it goes without saying: detail the f*ck out of it.

If the paint has swirls, have that corrected. (DA polisher & compound, followed by polish)

Have a proper two-bucket, grit-guarded wash done on it.

Seal it with a synthetic wax (Meguiar’s Ultimate wax) and top it with something like Collinite 845.

Vacuum the interior, shampoo the carpets or use a steam cleaner.

You want the whole car to look as new as possible; don’t give potential buyers any reason to think it hasn’t been babied.

Do all of that and you’ll not only appeal to people who know exactly what you’ve got but you may attract buyers from audiences you weren’t targeting.
