I haven’t driven any of them, but the BRZ is the one I’d most like to test drive for a few months.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle. The Audi only makes it by $100 and, I argue, should not be included in this list.

Under 40k and brand new?

I would be doing a test drive between the Mustang GT, Challenger R/T Shaker and a Camaro SS. In that order. (bonus points for Shaker Hood, I just think they’re awesome)

I’d also check out an ATS Coupe because Caddy.

Yeah I’d line up the Mustang, Camaro, Challenger and see which one I like the best and go home with it if I had a 40k budget on a performance car.

Ehhhh... Sticker on my 1LE was over $41k. 1SS (base trim) and only other options were Recaro seats, dual-mode exhaust, and I think the bright yellow cost more too. Outfitting a 15 Mustang GT performance pack with any desirable options will run you even more.

But if you mean a base Camaro SS or Mustang GT, for sure.

Haven’t driven the 2015 Mustangs yet... Camaro over Challenger though. Man that was the softest / dampest ride this side of a Camry.... The sad feels. I loved the rest of it though (mostly) especially the exhaust on the SRT.

Yea, definitely test them all! I just know when I did the Challenger was a sad let down, as it is what I thought I wanted and instead bought a BRZ over an SRT / Camaro SS...

That’s funny, because I don’t think there’s more than 10 cars in the sub-$40k sports car segment.

Having said that, I did not like the Challenger or the Camaro one bit. And the 370Z’s engine is dreadful to rev. TT is ridiculously overpriced, FWD and no more manual gearboxes.

My choices are the Mustang GT PP w/Recaros, 228i M-Sport and FRS.

You have to remember that the Challenger is more of a grand touring car rather than a pony car. That's why it feels so soft and not like the other 2z

Yea, I just didn’t expect it to be so little fun. It felt like a really powerful 2 door family car...

Well that is basically all the current Challenger is! It's not the sportiest out of the pony cars but it is the easiest to live with.

Shoulda tried the new Mustang. It’s smaller and lighter, new independent rear suspension. And of course - 5.0!

I was saying what I would do. There’s no budget in my book keeping for those fun toys lol.

But it’s ok, I’ve got my commuter Milan which is fine and my 68 Montego to rip burn outs, and frankly the Montego sounds better than all of these options anyhow (brz/mustang/challenger/camaro) If you don’t believe me, I’ll post the youtube exhaust vid for you.

I couldn’t wait any longer! I really wanted something new (My Si was too brutal and stiff for all the driving I was doing and maintenance was getting too frequent for my schedule at ~150k).

I wanted to try the Mustang, but they never seemed to be present, and 5.0 I would have wanted used the way Mustangs depreciate it was worth it if I got one. —Maybe I just rationalized the FR-s too much. ;)

I guess I am odd, I like my DD to be a little harsher. Although the FR-s has some issues on things that aren’t the car, but amenities.

I Loathe the BRZ / FR-(Wanna be). It’s so under powered, the tires are so narrow and it sounds horrible. They could have given it a decent motor and made it a respectable Supra replacement instead of a Celica one.

I like a sporty ride around town but I spend 2 ½ hours on the highway everyday so both my cars have a soft ride.

I’d say you’re rationalizing too much but if it’s what you want good for you, I would write one of those off instantaneously because it’s a Subaru motor and lack of power. Oh and I love Ford 5.0’s. That’s what is in the 68 Montego btw, Ford 302/5.0 V8

I like my Subaru motor, and the lack of power isn’t so bad most the time. It’s a fun car, and it turns head more than it should.

I miss my 5.0, but it was a build no one would expect... Fully built 5.0 pulled from a stock car in a 79 Ford Granada (stock 302 blown twice), that was fun.

Seems to me the Mustang/Charger/Challenger might fall into a muscle car category, rather than sports car. I don’t know; I’ll never own any of them. I am very curious about the Miata...

I’m too cheap poor. ‘05 Impala is more my speed. And an ‘89 Camry slushbox, a ‘90 Corolla 5sp and a ‘97 GMC Safari. Impressive fleet, eh?

Firstly, they’ve never been muscle cars. They’re pony cars. All 3 of them. They were all raced in road racing. They may have been used in drag racing too with the big blocks, but they were very successful in road racing.

Second, I like my sports cars with a little bit of power and some nice rumble. I think the Miata is a boring, slow little car, just like the brz/frs twins.

I’m sure it was. the very mild 302 in my Montego is fun as hell and all I did was intake, upgrade to 4 barrel, some cooling, and dual exhaust.
