Kinja'd!!!

A customer (an OCD old man) Will not let go of his unfounded need to have a specific car. Now let’s get this clear, I have no problem with people wanting what they want. I’m the same way. What I don’t appreciate is him bitching about it every step of the way because he doesn’t understand the direction the industry is going.

Let’s start with pricing: there are no rebates on 15s, so he’s bitching about pricing. But he refuses to take a 14, which is 99% The same car because he’s convinced that there’s changes that Cadillac is lying and saying they haven’t made.

The engine: he has to have a V6, but once again, he won’t even drive a 2014 V6 Because he’s not gonna buy one, and then there’s those pesky secret changes again. I’ve tried to explain to him that the industry is going to the 4 cylinders, and that’s why we keep them. He’s saying people buy them because that’s what we stock. No, that’s why we have several 2014 V6s that he won’t drive. Because they DONT sell when we stock them.

And all of this is after he basically told me that he’s probably going to buy from another Cadillac dealer that is closer to him. THEN FUCKING BOTHER THEM WITH YOUR NONSENSE!

My grandma replaced her ‘04 Deville with a 2012 SRX and kept complaining that it didn't ride as smoothly. It took me forever to explain to her that the only cars that are as mushy of a ride as that Deville was are Avalons and such - which she hates. Old people. *shakes head*

That’s basically what he’s saying about us not stocking V6s and how it’s us “forcing” customers into cars they don’t want. Which is in no way true about the reason we don’t stock them. Exhibit A being the several remaining 2014 V6s sitting on our lot...

Does she lament the loss of the bench seat? Most of our customers coming out of Devilles have that as their main complaint.

I think the most horrifying thing in this whole post is that V6 Caddies don’t sell. I4 in a Caddy is an abomination.

They’re hella good though. To be honest, the speed is the same, it’s just the difference of sound. And now that AWD permeates our lineup, the V6 is actually at a disadvantage as it has less torque and bogs off the line.

IS THIS THE CTS.
IT BETTER NOT BE THE CTS.

My friend refuses to get a fully loaded left-in-stock 2014 instead of a barely loaded 2015 BECAUSE OF THE BADGE. HE DOESN’T LIKE THE WREATH

This is the CTS. And while I agree that the new badge looks awesome, it’s not enough to make me overlook the 8k Cadi is offering on the 2014s!

We have a performance V6 RWD (that means 8-speed) that was going for a pretty good pricing last I checked on it. I had to stop looking at it before I did something stupid...

Let me clarify: It may be that the I4 makes for a better *car*. It is possible, however, that as I contend it doesn’t make for a better *Cadillac*. The whole conception of what makes a Cadillac a Cadillac doesn’t necessarily have to do with its qualities as a car - on paper, a ‘90 Fleetwood has nothing special to recommend it, but in detail and delivery it is an exceptional standard-bearer. I leave you with this - were I buying one, reason would be wholly left out in the cold on that topic. A v6 on sufferance, but you *could not* sell me an I4 Cadillac.

I’m not disagreeing with you in the least. In fact, if I was buying a standard line, I would go RWD/V6 Because it also includes the 8-speed then. We had a 2014 Performance on the lot for a long time with that configuration that I wanted very very badly.

Because if it’s not I’m kind of screwed.

He’s being an utter fool for not test-driving a V6 ‘14 and then ordering a ‘15 or finding a dealer with one if he likes it, but the V6 stickler’s point, I’m with him on. That 8 speed RWD sounds like everything a Cadillac should be, arguably (but only just) minus a cylinder or two.

Unlike some, I’m not convinced of AWD as a must-have luxury feature. Is it new/cutting edge/top of the line for customer comfort and convenience? If not, then it doesn’t absolutely belong in a Caddy, even as an option. I know it’s been hard for Cadillac to slip back into its 1930s-50s high school pants of bleeding edge innovation in fashion and luxury, but AWD doesn’t actually strike me as all that. Not like power windows before power windows, electric start before electric start, electric heated everything, V16s, and revolutionary multi-speed autos strike me. AWD? A little extra weight via very common architecture for some highly variable traction bonuses? With extra noise and an impact on steering feel? Feh.

You’ve nailed exactly the catch-22 that Cadillac is in currently.

Do they push the better option that will drive new business into their showrooms (I4 turbo), or the one that the people that always bought Cadillacs want (v6/8)? That conflict goes beyond just engine choices in their lineup.

Kinja'd!!! nermal > BugEyedBimmer - back in the Saddle Dakota Leather

Ordering a new one is a pretty simple process, right?

Just give an either/or option to him. If he wants a ‘15 with specific options, you can place a custom order and it will come in exactly the way he wants it. If he wants a sweet deal, you have some leftover ‘14s that will be close and at a significant cost savings.

If he’s serious and you clearly communicate options and that you are willing to help, you’ll get the sale. If not, he’ll leave, and you can spend your time with somebody that is more serious.

Quasi-Related: My wife’s looking for a new car and we’re going to test drive a CTS.

What are your thoughts re: power plants - is the 3.6 better than the 2.0t? I’ve heard mixed reviews between the 2 engines. Will have her try the Vsport, as well.

Exactly my sentiment. A Caddy is about having a larger displacement motor that winds up gradually and smoothly, not a small yappy dog under the hood.

CAFE standards*
*and the EPA test cycle that they are based on, which does a very poor job of representing real-world results of a big engine and tall gears. Big engine losses getting up to speed, any speed = unrealistically wasted energy when your test cycle is all speeding up and slowing down. I submit that a possible 2-3 fewer MPGs in town is a wholly reasonable tradeoff for not having an engine with turbo grenade risks after 100k, but MPG UEBER ALLES, apparently.

I’ve explained his options to him. He won’t order until he’s driven a 2015 V6. Which we don’t have. And he won’t even try a 14.

The CTS is amazing. It depends on your preference of AWD vs RWD. RWD goes to V6 Because it upgrades the trans. AWD, go with the 4 Because of the extra torque. But go with the V-Sport of you can.

I think she was more torn up about having console shift rather than column shift. She still instinctively reaches for the wiper stalk in the SRX when she tries to shift out of park. But, to be fair, the SRX is the first console shift vehicle she’s had since the ‘80s.
