I’m putting together my foxbody and need to decide. Both engines need either milled or replaced crankshafts, any input would be great.

302. Better aftermarket support and ubiquitous parts.

Thank you! That’s just because it’s the good side though, the messed up trim and the lame eye are hidden.

302. FEs are great motors but they’re not as ubiquitous and rather heavy, about 200 lbs more than the 302W.

Well, how easy is it to make the 360 a 390? I think it’s just a crank change.

Still a good looking car, the design is nice.. everything fits. No strange “oh crap, we forgot to add” :)

302. Lots and lots of aftermarket and knowledge about them. Also ford used it for a very long time so you can swap many things onto the engine. IE gt40 heads

302 stroked to 331 or 347 with afr heads. It’ll be a screamer. Btw nice stang.

302. Way more aftermarket and tech support.

Don’t do an FE. They’re dump truck engines. The 302 will make the same power for way less money and you won’t have trouble servicing simple things like intake gaskets and distributors. It’s pretty easy to go bigger with a short-deck Windsor, too. It’s not uncommon to stumble across 347 inch short-deckers, which is a hell of a lot of motor for something so compact.

302 ALL THE WAY. FE’s can be built into great engines, but cost major $$$ if want power. And if you have to do machine work anyway, you could look for a 351 Windsor out of a truck. Stroke it to a 408 with some decent heads and make 550hp on premium quite easily.

Given the parts cost the 302 is probably the better bet, but I’d look into stroking it vs. turning the crank. 347 stuff is not that uncommon.

I’ve got the 360 and the 302 already, for free. I’m not really interested in going and purchasing another.

302 or 351 for certain, if only for the weight. The 360 is around 650lbs compared to around 450-500 for the Windsor.
Sell the FE to a Ford Truck guy.

Then I’d probably try and sell the 360 to somebody who’s restoring something and put money into the 302. Unless you want to keep both engines.

And unless you’re getting a great deal at the machine shop, I’d take a look at one of these 347 stroker kits.

Well, this 360 is out of a 71(I think) F-250 that’s in my yard, and it was originally just going to go back in.
