These MPGs are truly inspiring.

My dad was tracking the MPGs on our cars for a spell. Just looked back on them. Granted the data was collected was the dead of winter.

15.79: A Thirsty Odyssey

An Accord would have been better, no?

The Odyssey is a known fuel guzzler, especially in the city. Its crazy how bad they drink around town. To put it into perspective, you are only about 2-3 mpg better than what I get around town in a 261k mile, 5500 lbs full time 4wd land cruiser with bigger tires a 2.5 inch lift and 4.56 gears plus an extra liter of old school engine displacement.

Without long stable stretches to use the ECO mode, they are thirsty.

That’s really thirsty, though. My 2006 was at 18+ when I was tracking it (stopped after about a year when I just didn’t care anymore). And that was mostly around town.

I can only imagine how bad an MDX would be! .2 liters more displacement, AWD, its heaver (I think), and premium fuel. In theory, it should be worse.

So around 12-13? That's not too bad all things considered.

Well MPG-wise, yes. But an Accord can hold 5 people+luggage as comfortably as the Odyssey can.

yeah, I get about 13. I just looked at the pilot gets around 17 while the odyssey gets around 19 (on fuelly)

ECO mode (VCM) is a pretty cool feature. Even if you can’t really detect it, it’s neat to know that the engine could possibly be running on 3 cylinders.

What state do you live in? As pretty much everyone knows, driving style can have significant effects on MPG. Also, this data set was recorded in winter which doesn’t help matters.

I’m in VT, and the tracking included 4 months of snow tires (roughly, I haven’t dragged out the old spreadsheet). The VCM tends to magnify the impact of driving style.

You can of course detect the VCM, there’s a light for that. Also, if you’re careful, you can feel the engine imbalance in the gas pedal.

That makes sense as the Pilot is just 2 rectangles on stilts crashing through the air where the Odyssey is lower and is a little more aerodynamically shaped.

The Pilot can be had with FWD as far as I know. Although many in the northeast probably have AWD/

I’m actually not driving yet, so I wouldn’t be able to feel the imbalance from sitting in the passenger seat. ;-) The light is the only way that I can know.

I read Odyessey but thought Rav4.

As for minivans, a Pentastar Dodge Caravan I had averaged 23-24 mpg highway actual. Driving around town doing the usual parent trips, it would be about 18 mpg actual. That was a 6-speed auto.
