With the Prague debut and the feature at the Geneva Motorshow of the new Skoda Superb Mk3 getting a lot of attention. Because lets be honest she looks great.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

It left a lot of people wanting to know what the new estate was going to be like with many renders popping up here and there and no word coming from Skoda. The new hatchback (Skoda doing away with the innovative twindoor feature turning it from a saloon to a hatchback, being replaced by a single piece tailgate) taking in orders in the U.K. in late June/July time with deliveries expected in September.

Skoda out of the blue released images of the new estate. Now the estate in the U.K. accounts for around 70% of sales of the current Superb with fleet sales taking the large percentage again.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Skoda have chosen to do something that many companies don’t often do and release them both to order at the same time. Invariably companies like to draw it out and release a say a hatchback, then a short while later they will make a fanfare of the saloon, and then a cabriolet, etc...

It looks like Skoda is going all in and saying ‘right, here they are, come and get them’, which people will in droves.

All in all the new Mk3 will get 3cm longer and 5cm wider with the wheelbase getting larger by 8cm by moving the rear axle back a little further. U.K. prices have been released showing the current prices will pretty much stay the same though there is mention on some forums that the Euro price in the Republic of Ireland will go up slightly towards the Audi A6 pricing which it will share a platform with along with the new VW Passat but time will tell if any of the pricing stays the same or now.

Milton Keynes, 09 March 2015: ŠKODA has announced UK full pricing and specifications for the all-new Superb. The new model will launch later this year with the widest range of engine, transmission and trim level options ever offered to buyers of ŠKODA’s flagship model.

The new Superb will be available with seven engine options with additional option of DSG automatic and 4x4 transmissions on selected models. The engine range consists of four TSI petrol and three TDI diesel units with outputs ranging from 120PS for the entry level diesel 1.6 TDI to 280PS for the new 2.0 TSI engine.

The launch range consists of four trim levels: S, SE, SE L Executive and Laurin & Klement, with each one offering higher specification and equipment levels than comparable models in the current line-up. Despite this impressive hike in specification across the board, ŠKODA has managed to make the new Superb even more affordable with the new 1.4 TSI S model available for £18,640 – some £50 less than the current entry-level S model.

At 4,861mm long and 1,864mm wide, the new Superb is 28mm longer and 47mm wider than its predecessor, while the 2,841mm wheelbase is 80mm longer, allowing for greater space within the passenger compartment. The boot is 30 litres larger than before, at 625 litres, expanding to a cavernous 1,760 litres with the rear seat backs folded. Despite the increased size, the new ŠKODA Superb is up to 75kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks in part to weight-saving measures made available by the car’s advanced MQB construction.

As befits a car at the top of the ŠKODA range, the new Superb is also brimming with new technology and the brand’s acclaimed Simply Clever features. Designed and engineered to make the new Superb safer and more comfortable, the new features include a clever Virtual pedal system that opens the boot with just the wave of a foot under the rear bumper and full integration of Apple and Android smartphones via CarPlay, MirrorLink and Google Android Auto. Safety and convenience features include Blind spot detection, Rear traffic alert, third-generation Park assist and Traffic jam assist.

Four trim grades deliver exceptional value

All Superb models feature alloy wheels, air conditioning, LED rear lights, DAB digital radio and a touchscreen infotainment system. ŠKODA’s comprehensive ESC safety system is also fitted across the range, and has the additional benefit of Multi-Collision brake included - triggering automatic brake intervention upon detection of a collision - as standard.

SE models start from £21,190 and add 17-inch Helios alloy wheels, dual-zone air conditioning, rear parking sensors and cornering front fog lights. The SE’s impressive specification also includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and SmartLink – a system that allows smartphone owners to show their phone’s display on the car’s infotainment screen. This offers safe use of a number of helpful functions and apps, including maps and music streaming services, whilst driving. All SE models now also include two umbrellas, one stowed in each of the front doors, a feature only rivalled by the likes of Rolls Royce.

SE L Executive models feature even more premium equipment, including Bi-Xenon headlights with AFS and LED daytime running lights, leather upholstery with heated seats and Columbus satellite navigation with 8-inch touchscreen. Starting from £24,220, SE L Executive models also include 18-inch Zenith alloy wheels, electrically operated boot and Drive mode selection.

For Superb buyers seeking the ultimate in refinement, the new Laurin & Klement model has been specified to meet the most demanding of drivers. The most luxurious and technology-packed car to ever wear the ŠKODA badge, the Superb L&K adds striking 18-inch Pegasus anthracite alloy wheels, tri-zone climate control, 10-speaker CANTON sound system and piano black decorative inserts. The L&K also showcases ŠKODA’s range of advanced technologies with Blind spot detection, Lane assist, Park assist, KESSY keyless entry and start system, TV tuner and Virtual pedal all fitted as standard.

The superb is such an underrated car, how does this not dominate the large hatchback/estate market? It has all the features you would want for the price of a reasonable specked Golf!

On average its a £8,000 saving for a like for like Audi A6.

There is still a small stigma around Skoda even though they’ve been owned by the VW/Audi Group for many years now. But they truly are great cars and very reliable and have won so many awards they were winning several a month at one point.

The 1.4TSi in the SE spec 150ps (one above the base S spec which will come with a 1.4TSi 125ps) will come with cylinder shutdown using only 2 cylinders on low load and all four when needed earning it a 57UKmpg rating (the S spec won’t get this).

Classy as fuck! Not a single line that is wrong, missing, or too much.

That’s the thing with Skoda, they are slightly more than enough, exactly what you need and a little bit of want without going too far.

I can’t wait to actually see one in person. Even the bonnet is beautiful with its clamshell design rather than a big chunk of metal with large panel gaps down each side.

I love the light treatment, and the little triangular ducts under the headlights are surprisingly tough looking.

The rear ‘C’ lights are a feature of all Skodas.

Many have said the headlights look too much like SEATs, which isn’t a bad thing, but really work on this car. There will be three different types of headlight depending on spec.

You can configure a Skoda Superb hatchback here (not the estate as yet) on this German site but Google translate will make it into English for you (or whatever language you wish).

That is impressive! 150hp and 57MPG! I once got a lift in a 2 litre gen 2 and then was pulling 47MPG down B roads! I was pleasantly surprised.

At the rate Skoda are going, their sales could eclipse VW if they can get the green light for the US.

I know plenty of people who are getting 70-77mpg out of their diesel Superbs.

VAG will never sell the Skoda or SEAT in the U.S. because it’ll damage the brand too much in that people in the U.S. (like the U.K. and Europe) will see it as getting a VW or Audi for less than VW prices.

I mean it’ll be really nice to see but VW and Audi are seen as a semi prestige car stateside where on this side of the pond they are pretty much an also ran brand with Audi being the alternative to BMW (which also isn’t seen as a premium car but not a prestige).

We get 45UKmpg out of our 1.4TSi Superb estate. 30-35UKmpg around town.

I really do love this car.
