I saw one that looked just like this the other day. I knew it was some kind of AMG bodykit/variant. As I saw the back I saw two badges “ML550” on the left and “AMG” on the right. Is this a true AMG car? I know the ML63 AMG is a very real and common thing, but I don’t know much about the “ML550 AMG”.

We had the ML55 AMG in Europe... perhaps it’s just another name for that one?

Like you said, it’s probably just an appearance package, maybe with upgraded suspension/sporty package.

If I had to guess, it’s similar to the S Line package that Audi offers on the standard A or Q models. Just to give it a sportier feel and look.

It’s likely an ML550 Sport that someone added an AMG badge to.
Normally it’s just a 4Matic badge on the right of the tailgate.

Someone added the badge. There are no 3 digit AMGs, and Benz would never slap an AMG badge on a non AMG vehicle.

Just to prove the point, the AMG badge was added. That car only has an appearance package that did not include badges.

We got those too, but it was only the 163 chassis, prior to the ml63. The one above never had a 55 variant.

If only that were true. C450 and GLE450 are rumoured to be getting AMG badges, albeit smaller/fewer/different from the proper AMG's.

I know the one above did come as a55 AMG :) The picture did show on my iPad, so I made a blunder :)
