The lady from yesterday was talking to me this morning. I guess her husband refuses to research anything. After installing the new headers the car has a wicked backfire, and he has no idea why. I guess the old headers had been beaten with a hammer quite severely to get them to fit.

I told her that he might have an exhaust leak but he’ll more than likely need to adjust the carb and or timing.

Also, she thinks Hooker is a funny name.

Roadrunner, from the last post, but generation uncertain. Could be a 318, could be a 383, or several of the fun options.

You mean thre are people who DON’T want fire shooting out of their exhaust? I would consider that a feature!

Had to beat mine to get them to fit past the steering box. I don’t think it’s an exhaust leak though. I second what crowmolly said about the plug wires, I had to get sleeves for mine so they wouldn’t melt and short on the headers.

They still find there way to the headers, but at least there’s some extra insulation between the wires and the headers now.

Gotcha.

Yeah, tell them to not turn a single bolt without triple checking the plug wires. Chase them all back from the distributor cap.

This has the hallmark of a messed up firing order.

I had a backfire on the Montego for the first time ever because my younger brother in law hooked a vacuum hose up wrong after we did some work on it (only unhooked the vacuum hoses because they were in the damn way, stupid things are everywhere). Swapped them back and ALL better. Scared the crap out of my wife inside the house, at least it didn’t scare the baby out of her.

Given that it’s mathematically impossible IIRC for a V8 to avoid a sequential “bang-bang” on one bank and still be balanced, mixing up those two (or any other two, less so) is a real and storied prizewinner.
