Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I bet most of you knew right off the bat, especially the first one if you consider yourself an OPPOnaught or Jaloponaught.

Here is a bit of help for the rest of you:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Two iconic pictures of two iconic men, Enzo Ferrari and Steve Jobs.

Comparisons between the two have been made before many times and for the most part, the comparisons are true, in some sense, and based on a ‘fans’ perspective. If you like what both did, built and stood for then you opinion is pretty high and the likelihood of owning at least one mans’ work is likely.

That’s not what I’m here to discuss however. No, I write this in response to a comment made to an earlier post I put up about Super Cars and their owners in general.

What really got me was this response from misfitmascots:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The ‘douche baggery’ he is referring to comes from the post and if you read it you will understand. My point was more about the people who own the products and not the company itself but it made me think. It made me think of the CEO’s and VP’s and various executives of car companies who I have met and interacted with and the ones who I have only heard stories about.

Most of the people I have met are really decent folk, real car people and passionate about what they do. The flip side is the higher you go up the food chain, the lower the species you find.

I have been annoyed at best and sickened at worst with all of the praise and demagoguery heaped upon and about both Steve Jobs and Enzo Ferrari.

They both were the founders of two of the most successful and influential companies ever known to man in the modern age. Both Apple Computers Inc and Ferrari S.p.A. are world leaders in their respective industries. Both set tone and policy for all others, officially and unofficially.

So who is the Devil and who is the Angel? Both men are the Devil!

I’ve been both annoyed and sickened to hear the praise from outsiders when really you have no idea what it was like working with or for these men. I’ve had some experience working with these types of individuals and it’s no picnic.

In fact, it’s down right terrible. You’ve heard some of the stories about both: Enzo and his less than caring attitude towards his F1 drivers and Jobs’ ‘reality distortion field’. We hear those stories now and laugh but in that moment it wasn’t funny and left many bodies in the wake of their sycophantic and egomaniacal lives.

I have yet to figure out if what it takes, or absolutely requires one to be sycophantic and or an ego maniac to achieve such success but I sure as hell don’t want to try and appease it.

Imagine just how hard and demeaning it was to work with these guys. Listen to the ones who were there and they quietly let you know it wasn’t all that great and most times was awful. They don’t praise these guys like the rest, they know better, they were there.

By no means am I trying to tarnish their accomplishments and achievements. I’m trying to temper the praise and slightly deflate the over hyped air in the ego balloon. This is where I think misfitmacots is aiming his response and I don’t blame him.

The truth is this: both men where visionaries and set out to change the world, for the positive, by pushing the envelop in their respective fields and accomplished what they set out to do. Praise is deserved but some perspective would be nice. They did not do it all on their own, they had help from dozens if not hundreds of others who should be mentioned, and they should have been the ones doing that mentioning first and foremost.

I’m a non believer so Devils and Angels are just convenient and artistic metaphors and imagery for me. However, one rule I know applies to you whether religious or not: God is no man and no man is God.

I believe so but I’m no critic so I don’t know how much weight my opinion has. I thought it was a pretty good film though.

The movie skipped over big and important portions of the book. It was utterly terrible. They really skipped the important stuff. Steves trip to india really formed is mindset when it cam eto perfection, that scene was 25 seconds. Apple was called apple because Steve worked in an apple orchard, this fact was completely left out of the film

Well, all historical figures have their doubts and major flaws - FDR had major health problems, and some affairs during his presidency, but he still led us to victory in the Second World War.
