Is this true and what was required to do so? If you can get 200 HP reliably out of 1 liter that would be awesome in a 2500Ib hatch. I’m guessing another turbo required since the stock turbo compressor wheel is about the size of a small CPU fan.
How much power can you make with the stock turbo, 150 HP, 170 HP?
I’m thinking about getting a friend for the Abarth. Maybe a used Fiesta SE 1.0L Ecoboost for about $14K. Turning up the boost sure would be fun.

Looks like Mountune has a kit to make 165hp on the stock turbo, not bad considering it probably has stock like drivability and reliability. I would be curious about a bigger turbo. http://www.mountune.com/index.php/serv…

The 1L EcoBoost was put into a Formula Ford racer for a ridiculous ‘Ring drive, so apparently it’s “possible”, but I don’t know how stock the engine was.

It’d certainly be an interesting project, I’m not sure how tough the stock internals would be long term running that kind of power though. Plus preventing turbo lag would take some work if you upgraded the turbo.

Look how those minor horsepower gains increase acceleration on that little car.
Standard 125PS:
0-62mph: 9.4secs
31-62mph (4th gear): 12.2secs
Mountune (MP)135PS:
0-60mph: 8.5secs
31-62mph (4th gear): 10.7secs
Mountune (MR)165PS:0-60mph: 7.2secs

I have driven the 1.0L Fiesta on several occasions when my Dad had one as a demo. It was nice enough, but my biggest compliant was the gearbox. While not the worst I’ve experienced its a night and day difference when compared to the 6spd in the ST. Oh, and the available options for the interior suck.
That being said, with the seats and transmission from the ST at minimum, this a great DD even at stock power levels. With more power it definitely would be a blast.

Most tuners on the turbo fiestas disable the torque limiter that Ford has in place. Basically, you can’t use all your power in 1st and 2nd on the ST, and probably the same in the EB-SE. So by undoing that and having good control, you get massive gains from seemingly small HP increases because you effectively “gain” much more than that. If you get limited to say 90hp in 2nd, then get boosted up to 135 after the tune, you get numbers and a “feel” similar to a 40ish hp jump.

Good to know.

I would be looking for something completely conspicuous, maybe even keep those horrible wheel covers. Think how much fun that would be as a commuter sleeper.
I do worry about the long 1st gear in the SE-EB, but maybe with some tuning and torque management removed it wouldn’t be too bad.

I'll take my 400 hp 2.0L four banger now, please.

200 HP per liter is fun no matter 1 or x2. I think a 200 HP vanilla sleeper in steelies would be just as much fun everyday beating traffic as an insane 400 HP 2.0L.
The 1L EB has some very interesting things such as integrated/cooled exhaust manifold, three cylinders of perfect-for-turbo exhaust pulses, and an integrated turbo.
How about Ford build two 1L EB, cast together for a TT straight 6 2.0L making 400 HP. That would be and would sound awesome.

Wait. VW are building one.

MB has the batshit four banger (2 liter) in their CLA 45, so it's completely feasible to do one.

Yeah, I’m still considering getting one. And I’d definitely keep the wheel covers. Reminds me of the ones on my 96’ tracer.
