Members of the Northwest Automotive Press Association gathered on the Washington Peninsula for the annual Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year test days, dubbed Mudfest. When all is said and done the members then voted on their favorites in a number of categories, including Compact, Premium Compact, Family, Premium, Extreme, Truck and Overall.
Vehicles entered are selected by their respective manufacturers. Usually they enter their newest models. Also, not all vehicles are available for testing on a specific date; believe it or not, it’s not easy to get 28 vehicles in one place at one time. So if you don’t see a vehicle you love in the running, that’s probably why.
What do you think of the results?
Disclaimer: Driving Sports TV isn’t only a member of the NW Automotive Press Association, our producer is also in charge of the annual event.

Im not surprised and I can’t wait to try out a renegade to see if punches above its weight like the cherokee did.

I have to admit the renegade is growing on me. I think i'm still a little sour on the Cherokee due to its heritage (similar to how the Pathfinder lost its way), but the renegade is a new vehicle so no heritage to live up to.

Well, its not a NEW vehicle, since the renegade name is recycled, but I don’t really care. Jeep people get so bent out of shape about the silliest things. Granted, I hear bad things about the build quality of the Cherokee and the 500L (which the renegade is based on) so thats not good, but we will see.

The way I see it, neither Jeep or Fiat have the best reputation for quality, so the combination will either cancel each other out and be great, or create a voltron of suck like the Patriot or Compass.

Well it certainly proves the rule that you should wait a year or two at least for a new vehicles because it likely needs bugs worked out.

My uncle bought a Cherokee despite my dad pointing out its questionable reliability. I'll let you know how it fares.
