Anyone own one? Good friend of mine works at the local P-car stealership and they took in a one owner, low mileage 2006 Cayenne yesterday. I am in the market for an SUV. More interested in poor weather performance and comfort than outright performance, but is the VR6 in that heavy a truck a complete turd? Reliability?

I have no idea.. but that VR6 is a nice engine though, and 250ish HP should be enough. I think it does 0-60 in 7 - 8 seconds.

I’ve only driven the turbo 1st gen, but I hear the V6 version is terribly slow. Slow to what though? Probably equal to a run of the mill SUV (like a Pilot, Highlander, Cherokee).

I guess it’s slow for a Porsche, kinda the same thing when people complain that a BMW 316i (E36) is slow.. it’s slow for a beemer.

I’d love one with manual transmission!

Look for a Touareg instead. If you google around you’ll find photos and you’ll see the Touaregs have nicer appointments and a better interior. Also, on either car, pay attention for the self-leveling suspension. It can be a cool toy, but they can also break.

They are super slow but reliable. The most common problem with them was a misfire to the rear most cylinder caused by water dropping onto the coil and killing it. They are fun to drive with a manual transmission but....are still slow.
