Sometimes you absolutely hate a car when it debuts. Maybe you don’t like the way it looks. Its specs. But possibly over time, you realize you’ve grown to like it. What cars are an example of this to you?
For me it would have to be the Honda Accord. When it debuted in 2012, I showed my dad, since he’s owned a couple Accords and Civics before. He immediately rejected it and said it looked bland. It kinda was the same for me.
Fast forward to March 2013, when we’re looking for a new car. My dad was about to take home a new Acura ILX when the stealership sold the car to someone else before my dad was going to sign the last bits of the paperwork. (perhaps another story for later?) Anyway, we needed to look for another car. I suggested the Mazda3, and not really knowing much, I also threw out a suggestion of the Accord, since…it looked affordable. Lo and behold, after a few test drives, we ended up with this guy. And no, not that Corolla, you inhumane soul. So how about you, Oppo?

The WRX, now i have and STi and take back everything bad i ever said. I prefer NA V8s but a little turbo 4 sure gets the job done.

The WRX may look ordinary or even bad-looking, but my goodness the burble is redeeming.

Agreed. Didn’t like either, drove them both (in Forza 4, sadly) and now I basically need one.

The re-designed tail lights on the Camaro ZL1, but then I saw it in person and rode in it.
Before the re-design I never considered Camaros, but afterwards I am forever hooked on Camaros.
The Aventador is one car I hate and love from time to time.

Something about the refreshed Camaros makes them stand out more than the original new Camaro.

Does hating the 5-door WRX but loving the 5-door STi count? I still think it’s amazing the difference a WELL DONE body kit can make

All the boxy cars. Things like the Element or Xb. I hate them at first. They eventually grow on me to the point of apathy.
Also, the new New Beetle. Saw one in yellow and actually felt nauseous. Not Internet nauseous but actually, physically nauseous. Now I don't mind it.

The new Cherokee. At first I hated it, but now it doesn’t seem that bad. It’s like Toyota’s fang grill, hate it all you want, but it’s sure as fuck isn’t boring.

they are basically the same now aren’t they? I think the WRX 5 door got the widebody in 2010 or 2011.

It’s the throwback tail light design, and the new front end! The ZL1 however, did not get the new front end, which I am glad it didn’t because I don’t like the new front ends, just the throwback tail light design.

Probably. The narrowed headlights and taillights to me seem to work better with the slits for windows.

VWs in general. At heart I’m a Honda guy, which pretty much means you hate VW. lol but more seriously, and more related to your example.
the 3rd gen Fit. I HATED it when I first layed eyes on it. To me the second gen was so much better looking, and this things was digusting. But now that I’ve seen a few in the metal/plastic, I quite like it Especially in Yellow or Blue. I even like the big weird taillights
I’m also very glad that a nice dark Purple is still an option. Passion Berry Pearl

I thought the title said “at lunch” and was super confused. I thought you meant like at a middle school lunch table, by the anti Subie lead image. The biggest EVO vs STI debates were held, at lunch tables, the opponents being kids that rode there BMX bike to school that morning.

Same with me. I saw the new Fit and thought, “wait, is this a Fit or an Odyssey?” I got a chance to see one up close and from then on it’s been one of the best sub-compacts to me.

That sounds like a much better idea than my article. Except at lunch for me I have the weirdest battles, some kid tried to compare his mom’s Durango to my mom’s RX. (???)

I still don’t like how it looks in pictures, but some how it works in person. I think it just has a lot of odd angles, and in pictures it just looks, no rolly polly, like one round blob, which make the car look larger than it really is. In person you can see how small it really is. Some one her on Oppo has a red one one some nice old school looking wheels, and it looks quite good.
oh found it. aslo this is a very good angle for the car.

The Fit can do transformations somehow; in pics it looks like a blob as you said, but in real life it looks filled with angles.

Come to think of it, I think you’re right... Can we consider my statement about STi’s to apply to all wide bodies?

I’ll go with the ‘15 F150.
I couldn’t stand its looks when I first saw release pictures of it. I just thought it was plain ugly. Plus, some of the features touted on it weren’t exactly to my taste.
I work for Ford. I see these things every day, and have driven quite a number of them. As soon as I saw one on a carrier truck, I fell in love. I think they look awesome now, and would love to have one. Plus, a lot of the new features are pretty nice once you get used to them.

The LED tails are about $800 or $900 to replace if they get cracked though, so you have to baby the truck.

Oh yes. Part of the reason they are so expensive to replace is the fact they have blind spot monitoring built in to the tails. That was something I think the Consumer Reports thing forgot. It’s not just a lamp getting replaced.

Yeah I heard about that. I’m surprised the BSM sensors aren’t located in the bumper, as most cars (I think) have them.

I think it’s more of “Hey the blindspot is there, let’s put the monitor there.”

I used to hate the Honda Civic Wagovan when it was new mainly because of the looks. I still think it’s ugly, but I owned one for a few years and now think it’s great (in spite of it looking ugly).
