I just found what might possibly be the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . It even has what look like the original Goodyear Eagle ZR Gatorback tires on it. The want is strong, but there’s no price listed.

Kinja'd!!!

So technically this isn’t a 944 Turbo S, because the 944 Turbo S was only sold in 1988. But for 1989, Porsche made all the Turbo S options standard on the Turbo.

Kinja'd!!!

The Turbo S goodies are:

Larger turbo and revised boost mapping to bump power and torque to 247 hp and 258 lb/ft, up from from 217 hp and 243 lb/ft

Sport suspension with adjustable-damping Koni shocks, adjustable front ride height, stiffer front springs, thicker rear torsion bars, and frame rail braces

16x7 front and 16x9 rear ‘Club Sport’ design forged Fuchs wheels with 225/50-16 front and 245/45-16 rear tires (regular Turbos have 20mm narrower tires at both ends)

Revised transmission with shorter gearing, higher friction clutch disc, 40% lockup limited-slip differential, and external cooler

Larger front brakes from the 928 S4 with 12” rotors and 4-piston Brembo calipers

Kinja'd!!!

The seller kindly included a shot of the build sticker—it’s under the carpet in the hatch area—which shows the 030 and 220 !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . These are the sport suspension and LSD.

Kinja'd!!!

Let’s marvel at how super clean everything is on this car, shall we? Ridiculously low odometer reading along with silly Porsche “you have a turn signal blinking but I’m not telling you which one it is” light: present and accounted for.

Kinja'd!!!

Practically spotless leather upholstery, with plastic on the carpeting, and awesome Blaupunkt tape deck and graphic equalizer: oh yeah .

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Engine bay you could serve a gourmet four course meal out of: yes indeedy .

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Pristine wheels with zero curb rash and period correct (possibly original?) Goodyear Eagle ZR Gatorback tires: indubitably .

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Last but not least, the original Porsche toolkit, air compressor (!), booklets, and what looks like a front license plate bracket.

Kinja'd!!!

I wonder how much they want for this car. Anyone want to call the dealer and find out?

UPDATE: I called them to ask about the price.

Ho.

Lee.

Fuck.

They want $119,900 .

That is not a typo.

Also most people aren’t aware that the 1989 Turbo S was actually at least equivalent to if not faster than the 1989 911 turbo. No, not the regular 911 Carrera, the full fat 930.

Many things would have to fall into place for that to happen.

I’m leasing a ‘13 BMW 135is. I’m considering transferring the lease or selling the car for enough to pay off the lease. The main reason to do so being to save money.

If I got rid of the 135is and bought another fun car—I have an ‘05 Grand Cherokee Hemi for winter/utility/passenger duties—I’d need to keep the budget at $20k or less for it to make sense.

I could certainly find a 944 Turbo S for $20k or less, but I dunno if that’d be the case with this one.

How can they logically think the car is worth that much.

That’s purdy.

With that few miles, and a car that old, I’d be worried about the seals. That motor is covered in plastic seals. Be sad to spend that much on a car, then need a complete motor teardown.

is the entire dealership smoking from the same damn pipe? I mean I get that it’s nearly factory fresh but that would be the most expensive 944 ever sold

From my researching, I can say that this is the most Factory fresh 944 I’ve ever seen. Also, this is the lowest mileage 944 that I’ve ever seen. The price is high, but I’m betting it could be negotiated down...

Fantastic car (for some reason I thought 1988 Turbo S became 1989 Turbo’s standard specification, without the ‘S’ but I could be wrong.)

It is a museum piece... and so much inactivity has probably let rubber parts age... and combined with the originality, it is not much of a driver. Maybe parades, or on and off the trailer at car shows, or something.

But A Buck-Twenty Thou... they’ve lost their minds.

I would much rather just have a clean 944S2 with some 968 parts swapped in. (G60 6-speed with a torque-biasing diff, wing-spoiler, aero mirrors, etc...maybe an aftermarket glass roof panel) as a nice sunny-day driver.

I thought so, too... With a few initial ‘88 Silver Rose Turbo S special editions, then a few more ‘88 Turbo S models in the regular paint color offerings... and then the ‘89 Turbo was the same as the ‘88 Turbo S after that.

$120K is insane... but I might actually wonder if it was slightly less crazy for a 1988 Turbo S Silver Rose car in this sort of condition. Only slightly, and only because I would SO love a Silver Rose car like that.

Kinja'd!!!

With a very german and 80’s era red-plaid interior. Very much a conversation starter. ;-) (I do love Porsches in silver tones with red interiors.)

Kinja'd!!!

You can tell how much warmer the silver rose paint color is when paired with stark silver painted wheels.

Best wheels for a 944 are Kinesis Supercups, or 964 Turbo 3.6 style.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I prefer the 3.6 style (in the second pic) a little more.

I was just looking at those on Rennlist earlier today... the upper car belongs to a user Sam Grant. (don’t know him from Adam, other than his listed Rennlist handle)

That car is about as perfect as a 951 gets. A subtle air dam, which I might have left unpainted black to avoid paint chips, and to coordinate with the black edge at the bottom of the side sills, too, but it is hard to see in that picture.

They both also have 968/928S4/964/993 aero mirrors, and 968 smooth door handles, and a 968 wing, rather than the 944 usual rubber spoiler. The 968 wing above, and the 951/S2 under-spoiler at the bottom are very nice book-ends to the tail of the car. The bottom car you posted has the rare, but bigger and bolder 3-piece adjustable 968 Turbo S spoiler. Very cool, but it definitely makes a statement, rather than integrating as nicely as the smaller wing does.

The Kinesis Supercups are a bit more curvaceous and dynamic, more like Speedline Alessios, but the flatter-spoke 911 3.6 Turbo S wheel looks fantastic, too. With guards red, I might be tempted to go with a smokey bronze center instead of the dark gray or silver...

I think the bronze center would look fantastic on Silver Rose, or on a nice blue, also. Imagine a 951 Turbo that looks as cool as Magnus Walker’s 930 Turbo. and the Fifteen52/MW-Outlaw wheels might look quite cool on a 951, too, for a bit of a more vintage look.

Kinja'd!!!

Another user on Rennlist, Kiethr726, has another gorgeous Guards Red 951 with 996 C4/Turbo twist wheels... and they look fantastic, too, if you prefer wheels that have an OE no-lip look.

Kinja'd!!!

There are so many gorgeous Guards Red 951s... I think I would prefer a blue one... with bronze/gold center Kinesis or the Porsche 3-piece wheels, I think it would look EPIC. Then again, I would put those same wheels on a Boxster S, to replicate the 1993 concept car as close as possible, too.

Kinja'd!!!

So many cool Porsches. So little money, unfortunately.

The 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo was about $45,275 new... Which in today’s money (according to this inflation calculator ) is $86,212.00... which if true is quite surprising. I had no clue that money has devalued so much in the last 26 years...

Well yeah, $109,995 now but it’s the same idea :)

The 944 Turbo S was a very limited production car and the apex of 944 development. There was the ‘89 S2 and the ‘89 Turbo S. If you wanted the best car Porsche ever designed or built, you need to buy a 928, but for the second best car, it would be one of these two and it likely doesn’t matter which

On the track, the Turbo S will out-drag an S2. The S2 will out corner a Turbo S. Most often it’s a dead heat if both cars are driven well, and if you want a pure track car, the 944 leads the 928 in cost of ownership. There was a tremendous amount of factory sponsored race development that went into the 944, but Porsche never developed the 928 for fear of wreaking its gravy train; the 911. The 928, given half the attention the 911 got from Motorsports, would have completely destroyed the 911 and left Porsche thrashing on the ground spitting blood by it’s own hand well before 2000. It was fait accompli. Porsche never campaigned the 928 and they did it because they truly frightened themselves with their own creation.

Did you know that the 968 started as the 944 S3? Porsche intended to build a 944 S2 Turbo along with a normally aspirated counterpart and when they were almost finished they realized they’d changed so much of the car they couldn’t call it a 944 anymore, so they re-branded it as the 968?

The Turbo S is rare, ones that are without that disgusting silvery-pink paint color or the even worse pink interior are even rarer, low mileage rust free 80s cars are rarer still, and this one is museum quality. You’re getting a bargain, if that dude knew what he had he’d sell it to Jay Leno for the better half of $500k, and Jay would still be getting a ludicrously good deal. This is the only 944 in this condition and spec in the entire world most likely.
