Anybody else notice the popular stories now include posts from the FP and other jalopnik sub blogs? Guess we don’t have to worry about seeing the blackbird again.

The Blackbird is vastly more popular than anything on the FP. I expect we’ll still be seeing it.
That being said, I don’t like how it shows FP posts on Oppo.

It’s definitely accumulated a lot of views, but it usually only shows up when Oppo is really slow and there’s not much traffic. I’m wondering if jalopnik gets enough traffic even in the slow periods to overrule the blackbird.

Well FP articles only get a couple thousand views, maybe 10,000 views average. I’ve seen a lot of Oppo posts, like the Blackbird, Rebuilt Title, and Please Stop Killing My Friends getting views in the hundred thousands. The FP will have its time in the sidebar, but Oppo will prevail.

Oh, the Blackbird post isn’t Foxtrot Alpha. That’s an oppositelock post written by Gamecat back in 2013. I think it’s a bit silly that the popular post on oppositelock don’t show posts from… oppositelock.

Yeah but if it’s only those super outliers that rack up six figure views, it’s pretty much useless to that people that spend any appreciable amount of time here. I liked it better before they changed it : (

True. I especially liked when Oppo was slow, so random posts started getting up there. I don’t mind when posts shared to the FP stay up there for a few days. I don’t like how Jalopnik posts get up there.

Agreed. If jalopnik posts are going to start showing up there, it’s pretty much going to be nothing but FP and Oppo posts that get shared to the FP, since I’m sure at any given moment jalopnik’s traffic is higher than Oppo’s.

I was perfectly okay with it here on OPPO, but was not okay with some of the vile shit that would show up from other Gawker sites on Jalopnik, so I got rid of it.

As someone who has checked traffic during times of immense blackbird traffic, with the exception of when the Blackbird post was featured on the mainpage, it only very rarely makes it into the top three stories even in slow overnight periods. But it has happened a few times.
