So I got a Surface Pro 3. Despite the fact that it doesn’t have a Wacom digitizer. And I just spent about 6 hours fighting drivers and settings, and I think I might just have hit the right combo. I think I’ll be able to draw with it.
It’s so far from perfect. It takes a lot of work to be really usuable. Windows 10 better be like 7 compared to Vista. Because I want a Win7 tablet with a good pen and a big screen and no bullshit. And it’s still not better than

tablet. But it might get somewhere.

I have an original Surface Pro and the wacom pen is not that good. Even after calibration there is still a big offset between the pointer and the pen’s tip. Also, it is unusable on the edges of the screen.

Wacom made their own tablets, instead of licensing the tech. It didn’t work out well for them. Wacom tech pre-2010 is indestructible. Post? I dunno. Haven’t bought. Too expensive.

I’ve used the pen from my phone quite successfuly on all the surface products.

Question:
Why not a Surface Pro 2? Less expensive, just as fast for all practical purposes, and still has a Wacom digitizer. No escaping Windows 8.1, but I find 8.1 to be superior to 7 once you set it to “Boot to Desktop” mode.

Screen size. I’ve heard that the 4 will have a 14” version, which will make me regret the 3, but since my ancient Motion tablet was kicking the bucket, it was unavoidable. What I really want is a 15” tablet. Now that I’ve gotten the right drivers and settings to get the pressure sensitivity working, I think it’ll be good to go.

If it’s not to much to ask, I’d be very interested in an update on how well it works as a drawing tablet. I need a digital tablet myself, as well as a portable computing device, and I’d like to have both in one if I can. Surface 3 has lots of features that make it better than 2, just not the digitizer.

For sure. I’m hoping to get at least as much time out of this one as I did the Motion. So, expect updates for the next seven or so years. Chances are that any sketch I post from here on out will have been done on it.
