I wouldn’t actually do it because putting ITBs on such a rubbish engine is a complete waste of time, but it would make a nicer noise. Not as nice as that CRX though of course.

Your argument is invalid. ITB all the things!!!
I love a good ITB engine. But what I want to know is, can you ITB a turbo engine? Unlikley on a roots SC'd engine, since it, you know, has a supercharger in the way, but a turbo might be able to make it work. with gusto. Until it blows up.

It might be possible but you wouldn’t get any improvement in noise and probably no increase in power. It’d be a complete pain overall most likely. Stick with high revving N/A engines and ITBs, they’re excellent.

True on the noise, but what I've always loved about ITBs is the throttle response is something god himself couldn't have planned better. Was thinking it might help low end pre-spool response. Was just a thought.

It’s possible, but with turbo cars it be much cooler to go with some antilag goodness.

That’s the same basic engine as my car (Renault changed it a bit over the years but the basic block is the same I think). I could totally do this.

carbs from an R6 are cheaper than Jenvey Throttle Bodies.

If it didn’t need to be used every day and be fairly sensible, I’d love to do something like this. I’ll have a project car one day...

Man, if my E34 wasn’t so nice, I’d totally do ITBs that stick straight through the hood.
3.0l V8 FTW

Just go and buy a TR6 before they get even dearer. They have them as standard...
Mind you they’re too expensive even now!

I’m about £12k short of the cheapest one on autotrader...

sure you can turbo an ITB engine. You just make a boost box around them and have the turbo pressurize that box.

This. Factory ITB turbo engine. BMW also used a “boxed” ITB setup for the S65 V8 and S85 V10 engines that would be easy to use in a turbo setup.

Yes, that could be a problem and sadly the price is only going to go one way!

That’s the nature of classics, one day they’re barely worth saving and being scrapped constantly, then a decade or two later they’ve become so rare the value sky-rockets.

there is an odd amount of love for the SOHC honda engines. With a bit of love they can sound great and perform well. If I ever wrote off my current engine I’d be pretty tempted to go with the far cheaper SOHC and do something like you’ve posted

I knew a thing :))
I love the bulge in the e9x hood for the “boxed” itb setup

As a person who owns a car with 8 ITBs, I highly recommend you ITB every damn car you can lay your hands on.

Maybe some day when I don’t need the car to be sensible and get good fuel economy. I really need a project car, I can’t do much with my Renault.

I does sound amazing, also I imagine they’re relatively easy to get hold of. When you have a cheaper engine you’re more likely to get a bit more creative with it. My engine is so common I can replace it for about £150, but it’s also only 1.2 litre and 8 valve, good for about 60hp. Maybe a 2 litre engine swap is in my future.
