I’m always curious about what people are eating when they travel around the woooorld.

Greeeeeat town. Expensive. God it’s expensive. I sat down for my 1st beer of the trip and it was $18. Ordered a Singapore Sling at the place it was invented and when I went to pay I thought the bartender said “sixteen” (for two, was paying for my buddies) and I put down at $20 and he goes “No, SIXTY” for two. I dropped two more 20s and walked out disgusted. 7-11 is a great way to drink cheap, they sell beer at more normal prices (Tiger beer at least). Same goes for the open air markets, you can get a pitcher on draft for $16.
BUT, other than that great town, very clean (damn well better be, you’ll get in trouble for littering) and people are nice. They almost all speak English too. I was there not long before the F1 race (years ago) so all the streets were lined with grandstands.
Check out Clark Quay, fun bar/restaurant district. There is a brewpub that had a band called “Jive Talkin” playing most nights. Fantastic, bunch of Filipino guys/girls who really nail some cool US music.
The “rainforest” is pretty neat, an untouched bit of green in the middle of the city. Not a bad cab ride from downtown. Of course nothing is a bad cab ride, it’s not a big place.
Just realized I posted all of this without knowing if it’s your 1st trip. So you may know all of this. Regardless, have fun!

Trip #4 for me and #1 for my wife. We are going on to Phuket in Sunday to attend a conference. Our hotel is on Clark Quay. We had similar heart attack the first time we came here for work and three of us went to Hooters for a pitcher of beer and some wings. The beer was mind numbingly expensive. We only have a full day here so the plan is to hike up the big hill near Clark Quay, I forget the name, the head over to China Town for lunch and maybe hit the historical center, go to the GP area and check it out, perhaps to the gardens and Raffles (yeah, I know the Slings are way expensive, over to the Sands for a beer at the bar at the top and then crab for dinner.
