Got my new Traxxas Slash 2WD in! My 1st real fast RC truck. I’ll tell you the pros and cons of this affordable Short Course truck.
Large box with was surprisingly lighter than I expected. Two styrofoam end pieces support the truck and transmitter. Shell of the truck is attached to the body, but in a plastic bag. You have four colors to choose from. Red is too generic, so I went with the black and blue. Looks good and expensive looking. ;)
Body comes off with four pins like you find on various yard equipment. Various warning labels await.
Under the chassis you can see the steering servo.
A closer look at the electronics. This is the Traxxas XL5 ESC. Battery plugs into it and provides power for the motor and steering servo. It is water proof.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
For the battery I used my Venom 2S 7.4v Lipo 5000mah battery I use in my Axial Wraith. This is the maximum size that this ESC will take according to the instruction manual.
The waterproof digital steering servo. Its a good strong servo. Not much else to tell :)
In a water tight box holds the receiver. The transmitter (thing you hold in your hand to drive) transmits signals to the antenna and to the box and tells the motor and steering motor on what to do. There is a 3rd channel to add lights or possibly a sound box.
This is the stock Traxxas Titan 12t motor. Lower the number the faster the motor spins. I’ve read some reviews that this motor sucks and burns out quick, but time will tell. I did a half throttle break in for 2 minutes when I 1st turned it on.
Surprisingly brushed motors are somewhat waterproof. Look it up.
For that motor to move this truck you have a set of four Kumho Road Venture tires and SCT rims. 2.2 inch rims and 4 1/4 inch diameter tires. Gives lots of grip on grass, dirt, concrete, and gravel. Slips a bit on wet grass, but I expected that.
One is fast and the other is strong.
I put my rock crawler wheels on the Slash :P Needs lots of fender shaving.
The Traxxas rims won’t fit. My hubs have a little nub, but adapters would make them fit.
The truck measures 23 inches long, almost a foot wide, and 8 inches tall depending on the suspension.
After a couple of runs I noticed the white paint was wearing where the side bumpers are. I placed some black vinyl to protect it.
Overall I am satisfied with the Traxxas Slash 2WD. The 2WD provides a better challenge during driving, have to slow down during turns so the front end can grip the surface and you have more fun doing donuts :D. Lots of customizing can be done, plenty of upgrades and aluminum parts to make each truck unique.
You can even change the body. Proline offers other Short Course bodys like Ford Raptor, Silverado, normal silverado, Ford Bronco, Baja Bug, Raptor, and a couple of discontinued bodys are still available on other hobby sites.
If you have a battery like mine it lasts for quite a while. Maybe 30 minutes of continuous driving? With the Lipo feature, the ESC limits throttle to 50% when the battery is low.
I plan on customizing mine with the Ford Bronco or a Rally body.
Not much in the way of cons, but the paint wear on the side was a bit of a bummer. Shocks are bit softer and the rear is always sagging. I know it for a smoother ride, but could be a tad stiffer. Which is easily solved as there are so many options for your Traxxas Slash.
It is fast. It is capable of 30 MPH with the included extra gear set. I haven’t put it on yet. It can even go over obstacles, not like a rock crawler, but surprisingly capable.

Seeing all these R/C posts makes me want to get my T-Maxx 2.5 running again

I really want one, though I’ve always wanted a fast RC vehicle. My buddy let me play around with his gas powered one a few times and it was a hoot. Is this Traxxas Slash an entry level/beginners model?

On traxxas website it’s a skill level 1. Light on the throttle and give it more as you get better. I find it more challenging to drive than my rock crawler. You have to judge your distance and speed or you will flip, spin out, and or crash.

Cool review! I love the Slasher. My Dad and I have a Nitro Rustler (gas engine). It's so much fun. We have quite a few modifications on it to like an exhaust, roll cage, adjustable springs, some aluminum parts and a few other little things. Now you're making me want to get it out and play with it again. But being a gas engine it needs maintenance first!
Going back to the Slasher, we've wanted one for awhile but you can do an engine swap on the Rustler. So we might have some fun and do that.

Too cool! I actually have an R/C YouTube channel along with the die-cast one. Here is some video of my 2wd Raptor version from a while back along with some suspension upgrades that made it drive a lot better. These things take a beating and are a heck of a lot of fun!
Nice looking Wratih by the way!

Nice buy! Still can’t touch my Exo though!
Until your Slash proves to be majestic as fuck, I’m the winner. ;)

Yep! Same, T-Maxx 3.3 here waiting for a new front diff, and what ever breaks after that, and that....
But it must ride again, much fun

What scale is that? I got a 1/16 a while back and it preforms like a lemon. Is this a better size to get?

It’s a 1/10 scale. I thought about the 1/16 scale. Same price, but parts are more expensive IMO. Much more customizing and easy to replace parts on the larger scale.
