I’m noticing a good chunk of us that are out of High School are either Artists/Designers/Art Students/Design Students or Engineers/Architects/Engineering Students/Architecture Students. What is the ratio between these fields of study/work? How many of us fall into what category? Discuss....

I graduated college with a psych/sociology degree. I don’t work in either field. I don’t do anything with art or engineering either

I graduated with a BFA in Media Arts and Animation. I work professionally doing 3d modeling & animation for NOV. Well...honestly I do mostly modeling and rigging work and only occasionally handle animation duties, but explaining rigging to most folks gets me a blank look so I just say that I do 3d modeling and animation.

It rather makes sense though there's 2 main ways/reasons to enjoy cars, aesthetically and functionally. Those two groups would naturally consist of people who enjoy those aspects.

I’m 26 but I’ve been reading around here for years. Some how I still don’t have rights to post here though. I always miss the approval threads.
Anyway, I started oppo’ing in college. My degree is in Aerospace Engineering with a specialization of Astronautics, or the technical name, “Space Stuff”. Also minors in Business Admin and Math. Embry-Riddle Fall Class Of 2011, just in case there’s any others out there.
Nowadays I’m a technical recruiter. I’ve recruited in the civil design and architecture fields although transitioning more to IT and Software since I just enjoy it more.

Embry Riddle offered me a scholarship to go there in ‘07 so I would have been right there with you. There were no chicks there though so I went to UCF instead.

Master’s in Accounting, work as a financial analyst performing business valuations of privately-held businesses and litigation consulting.
Would have at least tried architecture if you could have gotten a job in architecture coming out of school when I was in school.

Thats what I’m studying right now, Industrial design. The fundamentals classes are killing me right now because Ive been doing this type of stuff (I.E. Photoshop and such) since I was 10 years old. I just need the credit to get to the real stuff

I took a majority of the fundamental courses awhile ago, I'm taking. A design course this summer while I graduate out.

Your observation seems to be in line with what I’ve noticed as well. For what it’s worth, I’m a 20 year old economics student. No interest in going into econ though—you need to learn/do way too much for any of the analysis to be applied in the real world, and even then most of it is bunk anyways. I don’t know exactly what I’ll be doing job wise, but I’ll probably be doing business/manufacturing analytics and new business development this summer.

Does it count if I seriously considered multiple art schools before realizing I had no artistic talent and wanted a good chance of getting a decent job? Or that I was quite good at architecture and engineering type things but couldn’t sit at a computer for more than an hour?

No but really, it’s funny how little my degree has to do with the job(s) I have had. Just goes to show that if you’re passionate it doesn't matter what you study.
