Remember that Bertone Jag that Jay Leno drove recently?
Or that bitchin B99 that Bertone showed in 2011?
Turns out that there’s an even older Bertone-designed Jag: the FT Coupe. And it was lovely.
In 1966, the Italian Jaguar importer Ferruccio Tarchini commissioned Carrozzeria Bertone to build a four-seater coupé based on the Jaguar S-Type saloon, which was displayed on their stand during the 1966 Geneva Motor Show.
Initially it was planned to distribute this limited edition model through the Jaguar sales organisation in Italy and abroad, but in the end production was limited to just the show car and the one offered by GTC.
It was called the Jaguar ‘FT’, after the initials of Ferruccio Tarchini.
I just learned of this thing today, and then, of course, I find that Goggles Pizzano

I like everything but the execution in the grille. All else is golden

I dunno, it seems pretty forward-looking for 1966. Kinda BMWey, in the horizontal/vertical breakup, but I’m pretty OK with it.

That’s a problem with some of these designers. They get a good idea and run a very long way with it.

Well, considering the Miura, Countach, Stratos, first BMW 5-series, and Citroens and Renaults that he did, I don’t think you can call him a one-trick pony (unlike Giugiaro).

Giugiaro?

OK, so GG was a two-trick pony. The Golf/DeLorean/Esprit era, and the later turd years.
(I know, I’m exaggerating and generalizing. I’ve just always felt he completely lost the plot after the DeLorean)

OK. I’ll grant the Brera (show car, not production).

I’ve always had mixed feeling about this one. The ingredients are there, but the greenhouse just looks too big. If the roof were perhaps 3” lower it’d be great, but it just looks top heavy to me.

Evidence that there was a time when automakers installed glass in cars so that occupants could see out. It seems that long ago, humans used these conveyances in order to cover more distance and, in the process, view the world as it passed them by.

Imagine that!
