If it only saves you once its paid for itself. If it saves you twice, great. Mine has saved me more times then I care to count.

I do. I sprang for a Escort 9500 though (about $400). You just have to understand how they work. It’s not a magic cop detector that will protect you from any speeding ticket. It requires vehicles in front or behind you, and the cop to shoot them with his radar gun. Even then, it’s not gonna detect laser until he hits you at which point you are S.O.L. Thinks like alarm motion detectors and automatic doors can set them off too.

That was my thinking and Hell for only $110? Seems like a smart investment especially when I go on a small road trip

I’ve had one for years, and I just think of it more as a fun gadget, not necessarily something to protect me from the cops. As Team6.1 said, they only work if the cop lights up somebody else first. On the open road, you can pick up a cop who is driving with his radar on, sometimes even over the brow of a hill. If you’ve got the funds, go ahead and have fun with it. But don’t rely on it. As Blue Leader said, “Remember, they can jam every instrument on your ship except your eyes.”

Maybe I’m just paranoid, but the states I live in have restrictions on commercial vehicles using radar detectors and the cops have RDDs (radar-detector detectors).

I always feel like if you do get pulled over for speeding and they detected your device, then they’ll definitely give you a ticket.

But maybe not.

I’ve used one, and I’ve not used one for years, all with the same result - no tickets in a very long time.

I do indulge my speed urges on the street at times, but intelligently and safely. I save pushing limits for the track. A lot of it is maintaining situational awareness, and don’t be “that guy” who sticks out in traffic.

I did NOT say I haven’t been stopped. Sure I have. I follow the advice Steve Lehto recently gave about how to handle that. Also, a cop can interpret possession of a radar detector as intent to speed, and make them more likely to turn a possible warning into a ticket.

Every once in a while I ponder getting a detector, but then I remember that I seem to be doing fine without one.

I have a V1. Spend a bit more and get some quality equipment like a V1 or Escort.

I know of a few places having issues with them. I live in Florida so luckily it’s all good for me!

The local piggies aren’t telling, of course, but it’s widely suspected that they mostly use lasers (but occasionally use radar to mix it up) and they also have radar detector detectors. So I just rely on old-school methods, like knowing where the trap spots are, being alert to sudden appearances of brake lights for no reason, never being first - or last - and otherwise waiting for somebody else to pass, then hide in their radar shadow (while keeping far enough away for safety).
