Huh, I didn’t realize ‘5 year old playing in MS paint’ was an art school course

Alright if you are so smart, what aspect of color theory was used to create the berries and what significance does that aspect have in the field of design? Because It seems that you understand what the assignment was entirely.

Hey now. Rule #1. No one is forcing you to be a dickfer.

How is saying something looks like it was drawn in paint by a 5 year old being a dick?
I'm just making an observation...

He posts his classwork and you provide negative criticism. It’s the equivalent of you posting the Sonic and me leaving a comment like “wow I didn’t know you could autocross a shitbox”. My observation is the Sonic is a shitbox, like your observation was his art looked like it was drawn by a 5 year old. Same difference. If you’ve got nothing constructive to add to a conversation you might as well just skip over it. Keep that petty stuff on the front page like I do.

Why does everything need to be constructive?
If he insists on posting his class work and labeling it as art, why am I not allowed to just simply state what it looks like to me. I don’t have malicious intent, I’m just making an observation.
If you call my car a shitbox that’s your right. I wouldn’t consider that being a dick. It’s just your opinion. I don’t like that opinion, and I disagree with it completely, but I’m not going to go hunt down the other mods and ask for them to deal with you because you don’t appreciate my car.
As to your last point, why should I only be constructive? Can I not express my opinion if it isn’t positive? If someone posts a BMW can I not say ‘I don’t like BMW’?
If he insists on constantly posting his ‘artwork’ he can’t expect every reaction to be positive. Especially when we consider that he never asks for constructive criticism but simply posts it and expects praise.
I'm not saying I'm not a dick sometimes, I'm certainly not faultless. But I think even you can admit that I haven't done anything to warrant a public shaming.

It doesn’t matter. You posted this entirely without context, leaving us to draw our own conclusions. I drew my own conclusion.

You’re not getting a public shaming. You’re getting a “hey, let’s take the rhetoric down a notch”.
There’s a difference between you saying “I don’t like BMWs” vs you saying “BMWs are driven by assholes”. He’s taking a college or highschool level course and obviously posting for feedback. Saying it looks like a child did the same work is a kick in the gut. I agree that he should have taken other steps to fix the issue instead of escalating it.
He didn’t hunt down a mod to bring this to our attention. Your comment was brought up in a post on the main page. As a mod I look into any complaint and determine if it needs any action. In this case I thought a reminder would be fine, just like I did for his post about your comment.

I don’t disagree with elements of your critique. I also don’t disagree with your personal self-assessment that you can be an asshole. We all can be, and only some of us can admit it. Was your response a tad dickish? Maybe, probably? Was it something that I would even notice if I was perusing the post without being brought here by other issues? I don’t believe so.
That said, in the immortal words of those who are wiser than I:

I didn't mean you were shaming, I meant him since he posted about it to the main page calling me out. Then started the process of trying to take action against me via you.

My apologies - I thought you were under the impression we were publicly calling you out. Yes you are correct, it does not warrant a public shaming and we have a rule again calling people out and stirring shit. Honestly I would have mentioned something to you if he had gone about the correct channels for this. It’s done. I’m not spending any more time on it. You shouldn’t either.

Why does everything need to be constructive?
I used to teach a lot of trumpet lessons to kids. After they played something, I would ask them, “What did you think?” A lot of them would say, “It sucked,” or, “That was terrible.” And then I tell them that there is a very big difference between being
critical
and
criticizing
. Criticizing gives us no information, nothing to that we can use. Being critical means saying it was too loud, too soft, too fast, too slow, missed too many notes, out of tune, etc. Being critical gives us information that we can use to make something better. So I would say that yes, ideally, everything should be constructive whenever possible. I think we should strive to be critical rather than criticizing. It would even be enough to simply say that you didn’t like it. But it would also be helpful to know why.
