Don’t fix your electronics with superglue if you think you’re going to replace pieces. Like the bottom case. Drastic measures had to be taken to get the hinge out.
Never thought I’d need a cutting wheel on an IT job.
Bonus! State of one of my desks:

Yeah, you’re better off tack welding it shut. With the mobo and $500 Video card attached to ground.
What could possiblay go wrong?

Just put it all back together. Two screws left over. Lightness added.

What’s that, Lenovo, HP?
I’ve actually never bothered “repairing” bottom cases. Just isn’t worth it in the long run, HPs are especially bad. Worst one I’ve ever seen was the 17” silver DV7, every single one I ever worked on had the exact same break on the left side hinge near the CPU cooler.

Tell Apple that. They're gluing all the shot in their new computers. Upgrades? Fuhgeddaboutit.

Lenovo y470. The anchors for the hinge screws cracked right off. Glued it 4 or 5 times because I had a ton of glue lying around. To be fair, I’m rather rough with my laptops and take them everywhere

Tell me about it. It’s like they don’t want you working on your own shot.

I’m not surprised. Pretty chunky laptop. I’m sure I’ve had to fix at least one in the past.
The Thinkpad series has some of the toughest hinges, but Dell and Apple make probably the most user serviceable ones I’ve worked with. Apples are hard to get to, and Dells can be pretty flimsy, but replacing them isn’t too bad. Except for some of the 2008-2010 Inspiron laptops, those bottom cases will do the same thing.

They don't. They want you to buy all their overpriced upgrades when you order the machine. I'm a diehard Apple guy, but the direction they're going is really disappointing.
