With E. Julius’s latest post of a Catera (which again makes me think of the Price Is Right horn; always keep the URL handy in your bookmarks!)
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
It made me think of more recent incarnations of badge engineering.
One was something I didn’t know existed until I saw it in a traffic jam on the E42. The recent incarnation of the Lancia Thema.

The other is that the Catera was derived from an EU Opel Omega (scroll down to the B2 section)

What’s interesting is that badge engineering is a big thing in GM Europe, especially with them killing the Chevrolet “brand” here. In the UK and right-hand drive countries (AU/NZ) GM has Vauxhall. On the content where things are left-hand drive, they have Opel. The differences between an Opel Astra and Saturn Astra would be the available Diesel drivetrains and speedos in kmh vs. mph. The differences between the Opel Astra and Vauxhall Astra would be speedos in kmh and mph, but with the steering wheel on the wrong side. Also, the Chevy Volt is the Opel Ampere here.

In regards to the RHD market, the U.K. its Vauxhall, in Aus/NZ its Holden and South Africa its Opel. Even in the Republic of Ireland its Opel.

Badge engineering is a big thing at GM in general. They sell Opels and their derivatives as Chevrolets in South America and they sell the HSV Clubsport as the Chevrolet Lumina CSV CR8 in Middle East. And those are just few examples.
I think GM actually sold the Volt alongside the Ampera in Europe.

The old mudflaps just carried all three marques rather than none.

Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Buick have all had inter-company badge engineering going on, even in the same markets. Especially in the 80s and 90s.

They did. I’ve seen Amperas here. They obviously aren’t available any more as Chevy as a whole was axed.

I don’t know if that’s lazy or brilliant
