Starting another blog here or elsewhere? Am I talking out my A**?

How does one start a second blog of their own for other content and keep their same name? There’s too much junk in my head and apart from posting it all on oppo, where large portions of it do not belong, it should go elsewhere. What would you do if you needed extra non-related space? Do any of you cross post to here from other non-kinja blog sites? Is that even possible? Would that be crossing the proton streams?

I like the format on Kinja. I like the look and how things post and the tools to use are easy. Of course whatever I come up with on said new blog would have no rights of content and anyone from a Kinja pay site can use it’s material, as long as they give a simple nod my way. This would be for just anything in my head I’m thinking of or have comment about. Books, writing education, interesting tidbits I’m processing be it history or pizza from that night, instructions on avoiding the F-word when telling your kids to get in the car, etc. I just find I need more unregulated space and it seems like this is the way.

So do I even need another blog place to do this from? I do have Grind’s own blog place and I could rename it but that would disrupt everyone’s link to it as followers wouldn’t it? They might not like the new stuff they’re seeing. Now, going to a Blogger site is just a place holder or a diary in space-clouds as far as I’m concerned unless they are seriously attempting to reach someone or something and market themselves. I can’t cross link anything I come up with from there can i?

Now I’ve gotten to a point I have no idea what I’m talking about anymore. I have a haz-mat salvage yard in my head of things to say and need space for it that’s just like Kinja. Friendly, happy, unicorn filled sprinkled donuts. Perhaps I don’t know what resource is best for what I want. Or, I could just reboot Grind’s blogspace as a different title and not care about it, just linking on occasion to what belongs where.

Haha, that was a bit rambly but I’ll try my best to make sense of it and address what I can:

First off, if you have random thoughts, ideas or advice you want post and you are cool with Oppo people reading it and commenting on it you may as well post it here. Oppo is Jalopnik’s off-topic forum after all. (If you feel that it really doesn’t belong on Oppo, I can respect and appreciate that though.)

If you rename your personal Kinja blog, your followers will be unaffected - confused, perhaps, if the change is unexpected or unannounced but they’ll still be following you.

On the topic of followers, they will see what you post regardless of where you post it. Following someone puts all their content on your dashboard, whether it’s posted on Oppo, your personal blog or otherwise (if they read that way rather than heading directly to sites/blogs, which would make following pointless).

If you do decide you want another Kinja blog to post things on, it is possible and I have done it (OppositeBlog). It involves having another account to log in with as a placeholder, turning that account into a group blog (even if you’re the only one posting) and then handing ownership of that group blog to another account (your original one). Gamecat has a how-to somewhere. I don’t have a link handy but if you search his posts you can probably find it, if not, just ask him in a comment somewhere.
