We had a neighbor of ours who felt that the person across the street from them had a driveway that was too wide, and without warning, called the city to complain. The driveway was on the crest of a hill and designed to keep the family’s trucks from being parked on the crest of the already narrow hill, it was 100% for safety, but *technically* too wide for code.

Literally every other house in the neighborhood, minus the complainers, signed a petition telling the whiny couple to go pound sand. Half of them, including my dad, also showed up to the city council hearing to speak in defense of the driveway. It was allowed to stay, regardless of code.

The vehicle does not block view any more than an Astro with a ladder rack. The Hummer has a very low vertical profile to the body, only lifted very (comparatively) high. This is due to research that indicated high profiles put crews at risk. Combine with the fact that multiple other vehicles are wider (as Doug points out), and unless Doug is parking badly, that claim is out too. Given that the person feels their statement of it being an eyesore is indisputable fact, and this person has clearly walled themselves off into a private reality in which they are Lord High Arbiter. Fuck them.

It whined about how articles appear on other sections of Gawker. Pretty much shows the demographic of all of the gawker sides aside Jalopnik. Gawker isn’t very open minded and friendly in general and actually called out people to “bully” nerds over some dumb gamergate nonsense. Probably came from Gizmodo (the apple worship site), Jezebel, or the main Gawker site (daily mail equivalent).

This happened to my parents.

In their case the person who called was some ignorant bitch down the street who was mad that we didn’t support her in her trustee election for the township. She won and used her new powers for revenge. We kept our driveway but she later got my parents on their RV and now they can’t park it at our house anymore due to some obscure code.
