Never ever leave your car prone to this in a cash strapped city. Dumbass, it wasn't even close, they were parked in a one hour zone overnight and 3 hours past when the 1h restriction comes into effect. Check yo signs. I can't wait to see when they come back for it. Always a source of enjoyment for me. My ex wife actually got a ton of tickets on me once and didn't tell me, and I was having a business lunch - pulled up outside at a meter for 5 minutes to pick everyone up, took me 20 to round up the troops and I got outside to find this. Gawd was I livid. They actually bent up my beauty ring on that wheel by removing it and putting it on top of the tire on my 242DL and claimed prior damage. Even with pictures as proof.

I've never gotten booted but it seems quite easy to defeat with a pair of bolt cutters.

sure, except they know your car, and have your details, and will likely charge you government prices to repair it, plus a ticket for the damage, and if its Virginia jail time with possibility of death sentence.
you can win in the short term, but long term removing it will be bad news. but I suspect folks getting boots dont think long term, as I believe most are getting them because they have multiple unpaid tickets

That turns your 150 dollar 'boot removal fee' into a 2500 dollar 'boot replacement fee'.

yeah it is 3 tickets up here or $100 in unpaid, whichever is higher. Cost to remove is pay all tickets you owe plus $75

Some cities boot on first offense though. They do almost no towing and pretty much only boot cars. Even really stupid ones like the car is blocking a fire hydrant will get booted instead of towed. Yes I understand that a boot is cheaper for both parties than a tow but still, it kinda just becomes a cash grab instead of actually solving anything. I am looking at you Hoboken, NJ!

I'd like to see someone with über-reinforced SUV that just turns the wheel and pry it off purely on torque.

My head hurts trying to read that. I wish I could afford to own a nice car and live in a nice house (even with an HOA) and not know how to type properly.

Ugh I lived there for 5 years used to love to watch people from out of town try and weasel into spots only to get booted. A lot of those 1 way streets don't have enough room to get the car out to tow it. The worst part is, you call pay the fine then have to return the boot...

I wonder if people have to return the boot and then get booted again while returning it. I could imagine that happening.

That's hilarious and the Hoboken parking utility will park in a handicapped spot to boot you while you're returning next to a double parked cop.

I really never get how double parking is so tolerated in that town. Honestly though the worst part is the road pavement. The whole city might as well be cobblestone still since it’s so bad. I graduated from Stevens so I don't have to go back up there any time soon lol.
