Caught this on TV last night - why is every car chase scene from the '70s so much cooler than the ones from modern films? To me it's the magic combination of rugged suspensions, a total absence of safety features, flying hubcaps and Plymouth Fury/Dodge Monaco cop cars. This SM sure takes a beating - I bet it drove away from the scene where it hops off the drawbridge. Shame he tosses it in the bay at the end.

The part of the movie in the clip above was mostly filmed in Savannah, GA. Fountain was (and still is) in Forsyth Park. Drawbridge was near Brunswick. Prison scenes (most of the movie) were filmed at Georgia State Prison near Reidsville, a VERY tough place in those days.
