Won't insure me, an 18 year old college student through normal coverage. But Progressive will insure me for $367 per year through Hagerty (Hagerty handles all cars older than 1981 for Progressive). That's $30 a month for an 18 year old and a 1965 Dodge Dart, even with the "modified" box checked (none now, but the future) and an yearly millage of 7500. I didn't lie on any part of it, I put the info in as it where my daily driver, parked outdoors and all. It's $79 a month for my Tacoma. The $500 difference in annual price more than makes up for the slightly worse gas millage that I'll get when I turbo the slant 6 (namesake) or throw in a 440.

But for now I'll just keep it on my dad's Hagerty account which is $180 a year. It's in storage most of the time and I don't know if I'll be using it daily anytime soon. It's also still titled in his name because I was 13 when we started working on it.

Holy fuck, $367 a year for insurance? I would do dirty things for a Klondike bar that price.

Your cars are too new. I also tried plugging in my grandpa's 66' Belvidere II (I'm thinking about buying it off of him) and the total Belvidere and Dart price was $563 a year with collision insurance and free roadside assistance.

How are you getting such a cheap quote? Clearly a lot of us are doing something wrong.

But I only have collision on one of my cars, so I figure age of the car doesn't matter. :|

It could be regional. Is everyone using Hagerty/Progressive with cars from before 1981?

Are you keeping the Volvo? That's the only one that would qualify for this. If you're an actual adult and you don't drive it everyday it could easily be less than $200 a year.

For shame. Your grandpa would chastise you for that spelling. BelvEdere.

I can guarantee you he wouldn't care. It's been parked in his basement since 1989. 400, white with immaculate red interior, 4 door. He bought it because it was so clean and then he forgot about it. He actually helped my great grandmother buy the Dart new in 65.

Thanks! I'll check it out. Sadly, the Volvo is for sale and I don't plan on keeping it too much longer.

However - another classic car is always just on the horizon. :)

Insurance on old cars is cheap. The insurance on my Lincoln is -$10/month yes negative ten dollars a month. you see since the lincoln is only my secondary car the multi car discount my insurance gives me is higher than what the insurance cost per year. The insurance for the Lincoln is $238/year and the multi car discount is $358/year.

How often do you hear of a car earning you money?

I pay roughly $3300 a year for my SL600 and the Magnum, but in all honesty, the SL has full coverage and both are insured as daily drivers. I drive too much to be able to consider a collector policy.

I don't think either of those qualify. 1981 or older. And collector insurance is no different than regular. Meets the same requirements and the Hagerty helps you find OEM parts.

That's awesome! There's a Plymouth Fury VIP that's been sitting outside a local mechanic shop for about a month now. If I had money, I'd be on that like corn on mashed potatoes!

My SL600 qualifies because its a collector car, the magnum does not. Hagerty and many others restrict mileage or when you can drive them, and I take the SL out very often, so I wouldnt even be able to estimate mileage for a year. I just have full coverage from Progressive on the SL and comprehensive only on the Magnum.
