Should I trade this:

Kinja'd!!!

1977 Toyota Celica GT (RA29) 20R motor. Runs, drives, could use a tuneup and a carb rebuild. Solid body.

For this:

Kinja'd!!!

1975 International pickup (a 150 series I think.) Manual, 304 V8, new radiator, hoses, belts, rear brakes, could use a carb rebuild. Solid body.

Here's my reasoning: I'd get more use out of a truck, I don't drive the Celica much as it is, and I do haul stuff on occasion. I've always had a soft spot for Internationals ( I owned 3 back in high school, one of which ran and I drove,) Not that I don't for Toyotas as well (I own 3.) The prices are pretty comparable as far as what each one would sell for. SO, what do you think Oppo?

If you'll use the truck more, AND get all boned up for Internationals, then go ahead and make the trade. Seems like a win-win to me.

If you don't have a pickup? Trade it.

Otherwise, maybe you want it anyway.

My only reservation: I've always avoided Int'l because parts rarity and reliability. I figure there's about a billion Toyota parts in junkyards and in third party catalogs.

Being from the West, the truck just looks better to me. But that's not to say the Toyota wouldn't look pretty sweet if it was all shined up. Another factor: have heavy/long winters? Ditch the Toyota.

If it were me, I'd have the International.

Perfectly quirky/weird while still being an American product. Not a big Toyota fan, so I'm 100% biased in this one.

Wait. RA29?

I'll offer you my standard trade, especially if you're near Seattle.
2 Cases of Rainier, 1 Chicken McNugget Happy meal, and a half drunk Slurpee.

The International is selling for $2200 (or trade,) which jives with the info here: https://www.superscoutspecialists.com/store/t-value.…

The Celica's usually go for 2-3k depending on the condition, I'd ask about $2,500 if I post it.

I can vouch for my vehicle, no deal until I inspect the truck myself of course.

I'm in NC, so no long winters here (unless you just count it being cold...) Plus I also have a '93 4runner that's lightly beefed up with all-terrains and a locker and performs great on the occasion we do get snow down here (like the past 2 years.) I do have some reservations about parts as well, but I managed to find enough resources yesterday by doing some searching to be comfortable if I do decide to go through with it.

DO IT. International trucks are just so rad it hurts. The only thing that could make it cooler would be to ditch the AMC mill for a real IH 345. Just to be different.

EDIT: Wait... is that the AMC 304, or did International build their own? I have much to learn about orphan trucks...

They only made this model in 74-75 (which was also the year they stopped making the light pickups all together.) I believe it is an AMC engine.

Keep the Celica. It may become a collectible with some value in 10 years or so. An old International pickup is less likely to gain as much value. Plus International pickups were never that popular because Fords, Chevys and Dodges were better.

The Celica will probably be easier to own in the long run as well because it isn't an orphaned brand.

And the Celica will be nicer to drive too.

If you haul stuff on occasion, then just rent a pickup truck or van for the odd time you need to haul.

All good points. Not to worry, no sooner had I sent pics to they guy seeing if he wanted to trade (spoke to him on the phone yesterday, boy was he a talker) than the ad for the IH disappeared from Craigslist. It's for the best I suppose. I do like the Celica and it is certainly easier to find parts for. All i need are some Japanese style bumpers and some body work to make it really nice looking. As far as hauling stuff, that's currently accomplished by pulling a trailer behind my Element (which has no shortage of space inside either.) I do still want an old truck, both for hauling and to "rat-out" a bit. Something I can take to the Heavy Rebel Weekender in Winston Salem. I still loathe the fact that my dad sold the pristine, garage kept, Carolina blue C10 camper edition that we bought from my neighbor when her husband passed away. I think I'll just save some $, C10s and F100s can be had all day long in running order for under 3k......

Oh, haha, I was referencing the truck. I believe that most Opponauts will know about that stuff pretty well! Personally, I'd keep the Celica. That thing is groovy .
