Slow and quiet, but that makes you aware of so many more aspects of the racing, like tire slip.

I haven't really watched much but from what I hear is that the racing itself is good but I would like to hear an actually engine instead of a high pitched whine.

Just like electric cars in general: I understand and try to respect them, but I don't care for them at all, nor would I want to drive one or be caught driving one.
I bet it's fun, but it's missing many things that appeal to me. Waiting for someone to complain about me "waxing poetic" and blah blah whatnot.

It's fundamentally flawed.
I won't take them seriously until they engineer a solution to get the cars to run the duration of the event. The swapping cars because the batteries can't make it is ridiculous. Either engineer swappable batteries, sit in the pits to recharge, or just run a 20 minute event.

As an outspoken proponent of electric performance cars, I love that it's happening. However I just can't stand spec series. I don't really care so much if the racing is close or "a good show," I like the idea of knowing it's engineers and drivers working together. Of course, I'm in a tiny minority so if this helps it get off the ground and build an audience, in order to attract sponsors and start ramping up the technology, I'm all for it.
A little part of me does die every time some one says "fan boost" though.

It's more "racey" than F1 due to the cars not having a ton of tire, in addition to the trade-off of downforce vs. drag/energy use, both meaning driver skill is much more important for fast lap tines. Definitely check it out, it's a different experience.

I seriously wonder why they don't just do heats and recharge in between. I'd be willing to give it a chance then. Plus they could bring multiple classes and cycle through them. Tesla support series?

When I was a kid, 5 or 6 of us ganged up on our parents and convinced them to buy us Sizzlers Race car sets. Every other weekend we would gather them all together in someones basement and build a huge track (40x30 basement). We would have two person/2 car teams. While one car was on track the other would be getting recharged. Two people were needed to insure the cars didn't wipe out or battery die on the other side of the room. I remember we had a rule, you had to catch the racing car before releasing the charged one, but we all hurled the new car down the front straight as soon as we saw the used car coming.
Formula E is no different than what we did as kids. I like the swapping cars because it forces teams to pit at least once giving the team a strategic passing opportunity off track for those teams that are too closely matched to pass on track. The two car strategy is also good if the driver has a problem with the first car, he can swap and get back out there racing. One car and if anything happens, you're done; or the pit crew must now be able to service everything on the car: tires, wings, etc., the list could easily become overwhelming. It also provide a different type of entertainment for pit watchers.
