I often say that there should be a book entitled, "Men are Stupid; Women are Crazy." It'd be far more effective and accurate than most other relationship advice books.

So earlier I sent my wife an email that read:

She's not happy with me. At all.

Maybe you should just title your book, "Men are Stupid" :)

Men calling women crazy: a gaslighting tactic as old as time.

Pfft... as if women don't do any gaslighting.
I personally experienced gaslighting from GF very recently. Had an argument not long ago. So after the argument, I decided to cut back (but not cut off) on the texting to her. I figured we both needed some space.
Well after a week of space, apparently I'm playing some kind of "silent treatment" game... when in fact I initiated more messages to her than she did to me during that time period. And I never failed to respond to any of her messages.
I pointed that out to her.
The response?
Silence on that issue and then changing the subject.

"I often say that there should be a book entitled,"Men are Stupid; Women are Crazy."
It exists... they just had to change the title so it would sell better:

I'm sorry to hear that, but 1) I never made such a claim regarding the compete innocence of half the population and 2) your girlfriend wasn't responsible for the mass institutionalization of women accused of hysteria, with reasons ranging from "husband wanted her gone and had the wife declared crazy and hauled off," to "enjoys sex."
So anyway, as I was saying, "crazy" as a gendered insult to discredit a perfectly sane woman isn't exactly a new development.

"I'm sorry to hear that, but 1) I never made such a claim regarding the compete innocence of half the population"
You made a statement that implied that it's only men who gaslight women.
"2) your girlfriend wasn't responsible for the mass institutionalization of women accused of hysteria"
LOL... oh boy did you just stick your foot in your mouth. First... let's start with me fixing something you said:
""crazy" as an insult to discredit a perfectly sane person isn't exactly a new development."
There... fixed it to make it more accurate. Oh... you didn't know that MORE men than women were unjustly sent to insane asylums? Well let me educate you:
http://katetyte.com/medicalhistory…
http://www.cracked.com/funny-7539-ins…
The more recent one-sided studies that only looked at women and ignored men doesn't change that fact. Here is an example of a bullshit one-sided "study" I'm referring to:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j…
Now having said this... I feel that unjustly sending someone to an insane asylum because they're 'inconvenient' is wrong regardless of gender, race, religion or sexual orientation.
But please... don't try to hijack this issue into a "women's issue" when in reality, it was an issue that affected more men than women.

I'm not sure how you interpreted the mere mention of a classic gaslighting technique as an implication that ONLY MEN GASLIGHT WOMEN AND WOMEN NEVER DO SUCH A THING, but I'm sorry for not being clear enough.
I'm also not sure how men being institutionalized (for things like being considered " effeminate ," surprise surprise!) somehow invalidates the highly gendered validations for women's institutionalization, nor how it negates the persistent use of "crazy" against women in particular.
It's also funny how despite more men being institutionalized, OP and many others still fall prey to the "lol wimmin r crazy amirite" thing. Almost as if it was a stereotype heavily rooted in horseshit or something.

"I'm not sure how you interpreted the mere mention of a classic gaslighting technique as an implication that ONLY MEN GASLIGHT WOMEN AND WOMEN NEVER DO SUCH A THING"
Well maybe not only men... but at the very least, 'classic' gaslighting, according to your original comment comes across as mainly men calling women crazy.... contrary to my recent experience.
"I'm also not sure how men being institutionalized (for things like being considered "effeminate," surprise surprise!) somehow invalidates the highly gendered validations for women's institutionalization,"
Well you brought up the whole institutionalization thing... and you implied some inaccurate things about it.
The "highly gendered" (typically meaning looking women and ignoring men) studies are less valid because they the turn a blind eye to more than half of the data and in doing so, often leave the false impression that women were the primary/majority of the victims, when in fact, that was not reality.
"It's also funny how despite more men being institutionalized, OP and many others still fall prey to the "lol wimmin r crazy amirite" thing"
Incidentally, you could get sent to the asylum for "Feebleness of Intellect"... which I believe is another way of saying 'stupid'.
Sidenote: I mentioned in a different comment that the book he speaks of already exists...
