Have you welded with acetylene, or other fuelgas? Do that for a while, and you'll probably love arc.

I did Acetylene before Arc. I like Acetylene more.

Arc welding sucks, but it's cheap so I'm not going to knock it. I have a floor that my foot won't go through courtesy of it. It's ugly, but it's solid.

I've always prefered MIG, have wanted to learn Brazing and TIG. I never could figure out Arc welding, am not really a fan.

Arc welding is for patching up a combine when it's dark and your future is due. Wire welding is where the proverbial it is at.

Oh, but HondaBro, you overlook the $ signs that come with welding with that simple arc. They never ask you to fuel-gas weld or Mig weld a pipe. They offer you huge $$$ to use a simple arc. It is so easy after you catch on. Keep practicing. It is easy, Grasshopper.

So easy. You have to use it in appropriate cases.

I've seen some really great arc welding and understand why it would be used in certain applicatins, it's just not a personal preference, that's all.

If you're down with w/ the OA, maybe TIG is more your speed.

I can't wait to learn TIG/MIG.

MIG is dirt simple. It's even MORE dirt simple if you've got a little experience w/ stick welding.

TIG is a lot easier to learn if you're already good at gas welding. Both require you to aim the heat w/ one hand and feed fill metal with the other.

I don't like it, but I'm really good at it. MY LIFE IS AWFUL. Of course my dad went out and bought a MIG welder. I'm probably going to pick up a stick welder to work on a project....

It's not bad if you're using fresh rod. If you were using mystery rod that has been sitting out for years then it sucks. The coating picks up moisture when exposed to air, so if it has been out for any length of time it can really suck to weld with. Some rod types just suck too, but there are literally hundreds of different types of rods and a lot of them weld really nicely.
