Friendly fellow with license plate capture rig (cameras on top, Toshiba ToughBook on dash mount) driving the morning commute in an unmarked car in Phoenix. Brave new world. Although, not that new. If you are in Phoenix, expect the next step in police state enforcement technologies to start keeping track of where you’ve been soon. Smile!

that is an almost ameteur looking setup right there. the ones we have up here are rear, both sides, and front facing...unless the technology is better in this setup to capture plates at weird angles

I wonder if its illegal to put blinders on your plate.

Is it illegal to put a construction cone behind your car and block the license plate view from the scanner while parked? I feel like construction cones are always one of those things that "it must belong there so I'll leave it there", meaning no one is likely to move it.

I'm sure it can be. I'm fairly certain in Michigan you can't even park a car on the street unless it has a license plate on it.

People in AZ do (or used to) put shaded 'protective' covers over their license plates. Have not seen those in a while, so they may have been legislated into oblivion. The other thing I've heard/read about is some kind of spray application that makes odd-angle viewing difficult or obscures completely. Either way, this dragnet approach to citizen monitoring gives me a feeling of unease.
Only one prescription here: Don't forget to vote. And vote carefully.
