If you like some killer nasty, trippy 70s funk, this is your jam. Beware, the beat will never leave your head. Herbie Hancock is just a groovy MF'r. If you do actually listen to the song, let the whole thing play. Yes it might be weird, but trust me, you'll be head-bobbing to it tomorrow, promise.

Great song and album! The whistling in the beginning is inspired by hindewhu music of Central Africa Pygmies. There is another older version of the song which is more straight hard bop jazz, which is also most excellent.

I covered this in hs jazz band, wow I feel old. We didn't take the laid back approach of Herbie cause the director was a...(that's a different story).
I recommend this though:
We had to get the soul intro exactly like this or it would be an insult to do so.

Back at ya. I can't even count the number of times I've played Chameleon in various bands.

My friend's jazz band actually just played Watermelon Man and Chameleon at the concert last night. Truly classics. How's your 02 doing?

Patiently waiting in the garage for me to have time for it. It'll be awhile, my daughter is going on 3, and our second is due this summer. I need to organize the garage to make it a little easier to wrench on it easily at night, but I hope to start making progress on it again within a year.
