My Charger arrived to my garage two weeks ago and I have started to tear it apart (sandblasting coming up). Yesterday I removed the dashboard. The removal revealed plenty of weird critter nests. I did found some in other places too but the dashboard seemed to be the main nesting location. The ventilation ducting also contained several of these.
My car spent 20-30 years partly disassembled in Kansas and I'm pretty sure the the critters decided to use the car as their home during that time.
Each nest contained one or more of pockets. Some had still some cocoon remains inside. I also found one unlucky dried example but couldn't figure out what it was. Nests are made of really heavy and tough material. Almost like bad quality concrete. Several ventilation valves were blocked by these.
I took a picture of one that contained only one pocket. I placed a 30 mm glass fuse in the picture for size comparison. Any ideas what kind of critter made these?
The picture is showing firewall just above transmission tunnel. The wiper mechanism is hanging in the picture too. Dodge guys didn't bother to paint the rear side of the firewall...

Mud daubers. They're a type of wasp that is not made of hate and anger.

I think you right. GIS gave similar nest pictures.

We used to get them all the time at the salvage yard. While your average wasp will try to murder you if you get within 10 feet, all mud daubers care about is mud.
