I just got home from a day trip to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . This time I wasn't there to hoon pendulum turns and make gravel machine guns, but to help test amateur radio communications for the upcoming !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on May 9. Since it's the first RallySprint in many years, and since we could get access to the facility in advance, we wanted to test communications and deal with any issues before the event so that there are no surprises on race day.

I met Roger Borlase, communications coordinator, and Ed Sanders, who brought his Unimog out to play. Soon Wyatt Knox showed up to let us in. We reviewed the maps and Roger's checklist of worker positions and frequencies to check. Then Roger and Ed took off down the rally roads. Wyatt couldn't resist hopping in the Unimog just for fun.
In my infinite wisdom, I put my Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my BRZ last week, which is probably one of the worst tires for driving muddy rally stages, even at slow speeds. So I stayed behind at the office and played "net control." There wasn't really a radio net, but I made sure I could hear Roger and Ed as they traveled to all the worker positions and talked back to me.
The test was a success. I was able to hear them with the radio in my car (that's what the extra antenna on the trunk lid is for), and they could hear me too. We also confirmed that all of the frequencies we plan to use are clear. The radio and antenna setup Roger plans to bring to the event for net control will be even better than the setup in my car, so we should be just fine.
We're still looking for volunteers to help work the RallySprint. If you're in New England and want to help out, check out !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and drop the appropriate captain a line.

How's the weather? I signed up for the April 20 class and got an email saying if it doesn't warm up I'll have to reschedule

It was 40 and windy today. The biggest issue is wet ground - very muddy, thanks to melting snow. We didn't drive out to the usual skidpad and slalom training area because the ground was too soft. That's probably why they'd have to reschedule your class.
I hope it dries up and runs on time. I've done the two day school - you'll have a blast!
