I decided to wash my car this afternoon after work with the only bottle of car soap I had left. Went right through all the wax I had previously put on my car last weekend, and left these marks all over!! I want to cut my hands off with a plasma cutter I'm soo pissed.
I tried just using water, to no avail, and wax didn't do shit to cover it up. Made my car turn into a 20ft car from a 10 inch car. These aren't even all of them.
At least I'm getting it professionally detailed this Friday for a car show so hopefully they can fix my mistake whilst I take that soap and burn it. I love having original paint, and I want to preserve it the best I can, this just fucked it up outright.
Anyone have this happen to them, how to fix??

How did you dry the car?

Also, what kind of soap was it? Car wash should never strip wax. Did you blow or towel dry?

I'm tempted to try polishing compound.

I didnt even get to dry it before this happened.
I need to know how to remedy this right away! The strange thing is that this never happened with the soap before. It was blue coral.

Have you any car wash soap left over, any at all. Make up a very weak solution of car wash and water into a spray bottle and have another bottle of water. Mist a small area at a time with the solution and then wipe in, spray with some water and wipe off.
The soap won't of done anything to the wax unless it is a detox shampoo for specifically removing wax, sealants, etc... So the only issue is the water spots which are just mineral deposits in the water. You can buy water filters to filter rinse the car after washing, alternatively you can buy a water spot remover from most detailing related websites. Generally it's best to rinse if not wash the car in cool shade or early morning or late evening sun. If none of these are possible then try and towel dry the car as soon as you can after washing.

If you don't know what you are doing, don't compound the car. I'd re-wash it with Dawn (make sure you don't go too heavy on the soap), towel dry it with clean, lint and dirt free towels, and then wax it again. Mother's 3 step will probably make it pop nicely. Dawn will remove any remaining wax.

Do you think that'll get rid of the water spots? What if they're soap spots? Luckily, I parked in shade at work right now and not in the sun, which will be down when I get off work in a couple hours. I used the same soap and water as before and never had this happen. rubbing my finger on it has no effect either..I'll just go buy some new soap and mitts and try again.

Dish soap. It will remove any of the old wax so you will have a clean base.

Will it help against soap/water spots? How much soap should I use, and what are the repercussions?

It might. I don't really know what the spots are. I figure it is probably soap and maybe some wax?
I use Dawn to strip off old wax as it was recommended by a number of detailing and wax companies.
You don't need a lot of soap since the car is probably pretty clean. I think it's something like 1oz per gallon.
When you are done, rinse the car very well and then dry it by hand. Don't let it air dry.

Okay I'll give it a shot. Now does it have to be Dawn? Can it be any dish soap brand?

I have always used Dawn Ultra. I don't know if there was pressure from BIG SOAP but the name was always given specifically.

Okay then, I'll go buy some after work I suppose. So just mix the Dawn in a gallon of water and wash as normal? Then wax and all should be well?

Have you spent any time watching the /DRIVE Clean videos with Larry Kosilla? I highly recommend scoping out some of his videos on either the /DRIVE network or his Ammo NYC channel.

That's what I would try first as it basically costs nothing but time.
When you get into compounding or pro detailing you are talking $$$.

Change your wax then. I guess if you used too much soap it might have removed some wax. If your car was beading water last weekend but isn't this weekend then something is up. Also, it's really not a big deal. If you swirled out your paint or something that would suck but a thorough wax job should take an hour tops.

Sorry dude. :(
Double :(
IMO you need to talk to a detailer then. It's old paint and you don't want to wreck it.

No worries. I have an appointment with a detailer Friday morning, It was worth a shot. :)
Wax is masking it up for the most part, and it's not gonna stop me from driving. :)

I believe I remember Larry Kosilla saying that you could use a strong hand soap like Fast Orange to strip wax. Fast Orange has a grit to it, so be extremely careful to not touch the car while it's on. I'd probably recommend using a soap gun if you have one so you don't have to touch the car at all.
