Dear Oppo,
Please learn me on Austin, TX. I work in the UAV industry, and I am currently in talks with a company called 3D Robotics. Their sales and marketing team are in Austin, and thats where the position I am working on obtaining is located.
I have a wife and a 10 year old daughter, so good neighborhood with good school district is requested, hopefully will be making about 100k a year between the Wife and I once we are settled and she finds a position/Can transfer in her current company.
Other than the airports, and what King of the Hill has taught me, COTA, and westerns, I really know very little about Texas and Austin. What areas should I look at for housing? Who do I talk to about some local Autocross? and were are all the good driving roads at?

Expensive:
Westlake and Lake Travis
More affordable while still offering great educations:
Round Rock and Pflugerville
As far as fun places to drive, Fredericksburg is definitely somewhere to visit. There are tons of backroads that lead to literally nowhere and the scenery is beautiful. (Full disclosure- I own a ranch there.)
Here's one of my favorites that doesn't have any cattle guards:

Here's one that is more picturesque but does have cattle guards, so be wary of loose livestock:

I live in Austin and I have a 9 year old daughter. Some of the country's best schools are here. Round Rock ISD is very affordable on a $100K salary.
For roads, we have the fastest speed limits in the nation. Here is one of my favorite twisty drives close to town:
There is autocross in Austin, but I see more happening in Dallas and San Antonio which are not too far.
Austin has great food and lots of fun things to do. It is really nothing like King of the Hill, although you will get more of the jokes after living here :)
Austin is all about:
Margaritas (or Mexican Martinis)
BBQ Brisket and Ribs
Breakfast Tacos
Bats
UT
Live music
Swimming holes
Food trucks
You should definitely come and visit.

Housing: North of TX-45 is mainly the suburbs. South of the river (Lady Bird Lake) is hipstery/not bad. East of I-35 is very cheap but not the best neighborhoods (currently under gentrification). West of MoPac (1) is a good area, but expensive if around Lake Travis or Westlake. Central Austin is all a mix of everything. I'd say anything around the Loop 360 North area is good. I'm up there in the hills and I love the scenery/quietness of it.
AutoX: There's Spokes and some others. There's also some smaller tracks around like Driveway that gives you track access for a reasonable membership fee.
Driving Roads: There's 2769/Lime Creek out by the lake, Spicewood Springs , and 1431/328 that goes through Balcones Wildlife Refuge. There's many others that make for a great day trip to other towns like Llano, Burnet, and Dripping Springs.
Other:
Very good BBQ and Mexican food.
Cars & Coffee at the Oasis every second Sunday.
Lonestar Roundup hot rod show.
and all the usual "Austin Music, art, culture" blah blah blah
Good luck on the move and welcome to Texas!

Traffic is ridiculous. Food is awesome. Girls in short shorts everywhere. Schools teach the earth was made in seven days. No state income tax. It's too hot to hang outside in the summer. Hipsters. Never saw a speed trap. Allergies like mad, cedar fever, mold. Greenish brown vegetation.
