I remember the Interceptor from the original Mad Max and having less than no idea what it was. (This was before the days of the Internet, children.) The car sorta kinda looked like an American model, but not. I remember looking at it and trying to correlate what USDM car it started life as. From the article:

"The stars of the movies haven't been so much the actors but the cars. Mostly based on Australian-built Ford Falcons, a model that that was built to be larger and more powerful in Australia long after production stopped in the U.S., the Mad Max cars looked evil, with multiple spoilers, terrifying defense systems, big tires and even police lights on the roof.

"About 40 percent of the cars Vyper's company makes are exported, and Mad Max Cars is currently working on five of the conversions. The company has continued to import Ford Falcons from Australia and to convert them into the many variations on the theme that customers demand."

This website is a good source of info about the original Mad Max cars (and everything else Mad Max related). Check it out if you're interested.

This needs to go to the FP and Okulski or someone needs to go drive one of these cars.

Do they import XB Falcons, or just use '70-71 Torino coupes?

The closest that the US gets to the Australian XB Falcon are the 70-71 Torino coupes, and 71-73 Mustangs... The XB Falcon could arguably be a half-way mixture between those two cars.

Mustang was still based on Falcon mechanicals until the Mustang II in 1974, and the 70-71 Torino GT and Cobra both had a very similar body style to the XB Falcon, with slight styling differences, and a full-width grille that bears a striking resemblance to the US-market 71-73 Mustang.

I'd rather just have a nice XB Falcon instead.
