Do LM style starts, reduce the value of pole positions?

Kinja'd!!!

Even if the pole position is kind of redundant in endurance racing.

Yes! and while we're at it, lets get rid of gravel traps, safety barriers, fences, helmets, HANS devices and rollbars!

Those are for pussy's anyway!

I mean.. the last 60 years of safety standards are all overrated anyway..

Why would you need to be strapped in a car safely? My uncles nephews friend swears the only reason he survived that wreck was because he wasn't wearing a safety belt and flew right out of the unlaminated front window!

Where are they doing Le Mans style starts?

I mean, if they're doing a running start, and you're on pole, you still have some advantage, so it's as valuable as any other pole position. The advantage can be lost a few different ways, compared to a normal start, but it's still an advantage.

The cars will still be aligned for a LM grid, rather than for a GP grid.

So, cars parked on an angle along the straight, but no dash across the track, correct? But where? In which race series?

If that's the case, then pole is still pole and I would argue that there's more of an advantage to P1 since your next competitor will be behind you instead of beside you.

All Endurance racing is rolling starts now, no one does a true LeMans start anymore.

1. As you mentioned, pole position is more or less irrelevant in endurance racing.

2. But pole still matters in Le Mans style starts because there would be less traffic to clear when the green flag drops.

3. Is there any professional series out there that does a LM start? Even Le Mans and the WEC only use it for show before going to a GP start for the actual race.

In WEC, of course. All WEC races get LM starts this season.

I think MotoGP still does it. Or is that SBK?

I'm pretty sure both MotoGP and World SuperBike use a GP start, but apparently endurance motorcycle uses a full LM start, with a run across the track and everything.

It's not a Le Mans style start, it's the procedure. They are having all the teams and drivers line up next to the cars for national anthem stuff like the do for the 24 hours, then they do their warm up lap and start via rolling start as per usual.

It isn't a Le Mans style start at all, the cars are just set up that way for the nat'l anthem, then they go off on their warm up lap and do a rolling start. If they did a true rolling start it would be the most anticlimactic start ever. They would sprint across the track and spend the next 40 seconds strapping in and starting up the car
