Are there any cars that you folks like, but they are ironic/weird for you to like or want?
For me it is almost every hot hatch or fun compact, since I cannot fit comfortably in most. I love little cars with big power, I find the situation extremely ironic. Due to this, I'll probably never own a Golf of any kind (which I would love to) unless I can fit in the MQB based MkVII ones. I hope the next gen Dart SRT happens as planned, so I can get something small and insane. To my consternation, the Dart and the WRX are the only compacts I fit in as of now and I am not rotund just too long. All love to Subaru because I would like a new WRX but the possible SRT is much more appealing along with the Focus ST or RS and Golfs.

People say my interest in really small econoboxes is weird. Which is fair enough, it really is. But as I chose an MR2 as a daily driver, I don't know why people think I'd have regular taste.
And by small econoboxes I mean stuff like Diahatsu Cuore/Mira/Charades, Toyota Starlets, etc.

I understand the whole "fitting comfortably". I'm 6'1" and 185 and thats basically the threshold the fit comfortably in the ST Recaros.
I ironically want/need the Chevrolet SS. I've never liked big cars.
Now I ironically want the Audi RS3. Which... I guess isn't ironic.

I love (and have owned several) full-frame RWD American turnpike cruisers, but I have an unnatural want for both an original Mini and a Japanese Kei truck.

My most recent is the GLA45 AMG. in general I don't like Mercs because the new ones all look like they melted. It's also technically a CUV. But it's absurd while still being useful. My gf says no more cars but I think I could convince her on one of those because I can fold down the seats and fit our dogs. She didn't like my Miata, Cayman, or Mustang ideas but maybe something that functions for our lives could work (assuming I had the $).

Mini-vans and city-vans (transit connects and the like). So much utility...I'd take them over a truck or SUV any day.

I also love those strange things and want one, convince her and tell her its works everyday and its practical. All the while you get an insane CUV.

I'll go the opposite of you. I'm a short dude, but I've got a few big cars on my bucket list. I love SRT Chargers/300's and hope to get one as a toy someday, but they'd be way too big for me to daily.
Same with big old American cruisers, I'd love to have a 60's Continental or 70's Caddy to cruise around in.

As always, Miata's the answer. At least the NA anyway. The problem is I'm 6'5" and when I'm sitting comfortably in one my line of sight is right where the top of the windscreen is.

Well, for now it's out of my price range, but we'll see in a few years. The reviews I've read say the suspension is pretty stiff so I don't know if she'll care for it. She drives a Mazda3 so she at least likes a ride more on the firm side.

The ND is small like the NA. No pop ups but probably a little more room.

I miss my GS300. I've never had a car that was better cruising on the highway. NA 2JZ had more than enough power, decent fuel economy, and a suspension that soaked up the bumps.

Someone bought a new transit connect that I see often. They seem to use like a minivan. It looks nice.

It's a Mercedes so there's a 90% chance that its value will tank after a couple years. Honestly, I might look at one myself if I could find a CPO for a deal in 4ish years.

I've (regrettably) only owned a variety of fairly small, lightweight, small displacement, 4 cylinder (with or without turbo), and rotary cars but I DESPERATELY want a Boss 302 or Camaro 1LE.

That's the blessing and curse. There's a reason the resale value tanks. Know someone who bought a fully loaded E class new. He's had it maintained exclusively by the dealership he bought it from. Low miles for the year. A few years ago he had it in for service (oil change and such) and he was looking at the new ones. They offered him something like a fifth of what it cost new when it was 4 or 5 years old despite being in pristine condition. He said no thanks and he'd drive it until it was dead.

Only so much adjustment for you giants. I'm short for a guy and I run into the problem of not wanting to be on top of the steering wheel when I drive. My corolla was the worst offender. It's designed for someone with arms twice the length of legs. For my arms to be right the pedals were wrong and vice versa.

Just make sure it latches and you're good. Car doors are designed to stay closed in violent crashes these days. You'd think they could figure out suicide doors. They make life easier.

It was such a pain in the ass for me to find a car, I'm 6'5" and wanted some semblance of fuel economy to get me through college.
If the next gen Dart(2017) is still a good fit for me and the SRT happens as planned, well I know what I'm getting. The SS is an amazing vehicle and I'd like to pick one up used in a few years with the magnaride.

yeah I can only justify buying the SS on the used market as well. Between the RS, next-gen Camaro and the SS it's going to be a difficult decision if I decide to get into something new in the next couple years.

There are very, very few vehicles I will ever buy new and I think Tavarish has it right, even if he ruins half the used market by helping to drive up values. Look at the SS sedans or newer Caprice PPVs, they will be bargains when you start shopping.

Chech

Yeah. Snap oversteer in a city that rains three times a week outside of Summer, with bad roads. You start thinking your car may be haunted. Doesn't need to be pushed very hard to try and bite when there's oil and water on the road.

What kind of ute?!
Chech
> wunderwagen wants a longer roof

I've been thinking about an SS Crewman, for the four doors. But even a VE SS ute would work, I'd go for an E series HSV Clubsport R8 wagon if I had the money for it, but we don't always get what we want.

Please tell me the manufacturers of each other than the VE that I know is a Holden. HSV sounds familiar but I don't know it off the top of my head.

Yeah, sorry about that. HSV is Holden Special Vehicles, Holden also make the Crewman. Really, out of Holden and Ford, Holden make the better utes, and if you want a V8 they're your two choices.

Well, the MR2 only has two seats as it is, so the Crewman would be the practical choice. But a VE ute with a single or twin turbo set up would probably be more fun. It really comes down to what kind of deal I can get when I'm ready to seriously start shopping.

Get the Crewman, it looks awesome. Turbo/supercharge it later, or drop in an engine out of a junked SS or HSV. Four doors, RWD, truck bed, not a truck, and good looks! Bam, I would DD the shit out of that.
