so tempted to be a smart ass and post a motorcycle because it IS a motorized bicycle. But I'm not.

What in particular were you interested in? I'm good with bicycles in general

My older neighbor had one. The mechanics were on like a crate above the back tire. He wanted $300 for it. And I was like, Nope.

I've done a bit of research on it. what are you looking to accomplish with it?

The bike shop I used to work at built a few in the time I was there, and both us and the customer regretted the decision almost immediately. The torque of a motor is too much for standard bike chain and rear gears, once you upgrade these to spoke mounted sprocket and heavier (read minibike) chain spokes start breaking when you let it loose. To do it right, you might as well buy a moped.

However, I highly recommend buying a used Worksman Trike and motorizing that. They are built like WW1 tanks, can carry loads in their baskets, and their components would likely hold up much longer to the abuse than a normal bike would. I made something similar to this with a Trailmate Joyrider, and it was the E30 M3 until it went up on two wheels and scared the petunias out of me.

I want to build one using a 1950s Western Flyer bicycle I have lying around and one of those $160 kits on ebay/amazon. End goal would be something like the one above or this one.

At 16 I mounted a brush cutter engine (49cc 2stroke) on to my BMX. It was too high geared to take off from a standing start so you would peddle up to speed then engage the engine. I had to buy my first pair of sunglasses because once I got above 60kmh the wind caused my eyes to water. This was 26 years ago.

Much like scooters and motorcycles made in China, I would avoid those engine unless you can get some kind of warranty.
