So. We all know a Porsche is in my future. What kind of Porsche? That's not determined.

A 996 911, a 944, a 928, a Boxster, a Cayman. I really have no damn clue. Just for the hell of it, here's a poll of what Oppo thinks. Not that I'll actually listen HAH.

Kinja'd!!!

Shit, well I cannot embed polls without GAHGHAH happening. So here's my overall plan.

Option A: 996 911, upgrades included.

Option B: 944 and some Audi in traditional Jkm7680 fashion.

Ooooooo, that sounds rather tempting. But I also need an Air Cooled 911, a 911 SC Targa and several others. Before they skyrocket in value. Shit they already have since I've been writing this comment. Oh DAMN.

Pretty drastic differences really. Won't price be very different between the two as well?

I'd say the 996 911, though.

But for not much more, I'd get an older model Cayman. Like an '07 or something.

Reliability and Porsche are not compatible. Of course if you can wrench that doesn't matter.

My 2 cents, GET DA SUPABEETLE (911).

944 with *some* Audi

1) 944 then I won't feel jealous (I have a thing for 993s...)

2) Audi.

3) then you can root for both Audi AND Porsche at LeMans (if you watch WEC that is...)

If you can find a clean 996 turbo for a reasonable price, BUY IT. If I had that kind of cash for a car right now I'd totally get a 996 Turbo.

i can't even begin to understand how much the cool euro cars from the 80s have gone up in value

even the slow and non-rare ones are expensive

take the ferrari 308/328 for example

they have SKYROCKETED in the last 3 years

and the classic 911 turbo values, my god...

Sorry I forgot to talk to you about them! Here's what I think down below :)

914

Pros:

If you can find a 914/6, then you've got yourself a rare car that's going up in value

FLAT SIX SOUNDS

Neat little Porshche/VW collaboration

Cons:

It's not a 911 some will complain?

914/4 cars aren't as valuable as the Flat 6 versions

924

Pros:

Since you didn't specify which kinda 924, I will say that complete and good conditioned 924S and Tubos(931) are getting harder to find

Regular 924s with the Audi 4-cylinder aren't interference if memory serves me right. If the belt snaps, your valves won't go with it

They are quite classic 70s looking with the wedge-shape design and very early ones have chrome bits here and there

Cons:

The 944

It shares it's engine with the AMC Gremlin

It's slow as balls(if you wanna get places even reasonably quick. It may even be slower than a Chevy Spark!

More VW than Porsche(but that's not a big deal)

928

Pros:

It's a 928, how many do you see in driving condition?

It is an exotic in it's own right!

Dat V8 sounds glorious

If in good shape and running properly, it can DD, baby, and dragon however much you want!

You can be the U-boat commander

Cons:

Good luck finding a manual, and by extension, one that isn't in crap condition, but if you have infinite monies, you can get a very clean one.(The Mercedes automatic trans is quite bulletproof though)

Electronics may need to be very much sorted out depending on the condition of the car

As you know, the 944s engine is bassically 1/2 a 928 motor, which means two times the interference engine. And no, it's not as easy or exactly the same as a 944, I just changed my belts Tuesday. They say "if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball"; if you can change belts on a 944, you can maybe do it on a 928.

It's also going to be the most expensive of the three, but by how much, I cannot tell you.

Thanks so much for the rundown! I thought you forgot about me, haha.

The 914 has been the one that I've been looking out for the most consistently. Mainly because of it's looks, age and the increasing desirability. The only problem is that the majority of them are facing some pretty major rust and I don't necessarily have the means to fix that on a budget.

The 928 is also one of my favorite ones out there. I love how advanced Porsche was at that time, and the performance is pretty much unbeatable. Like that change holder in the door? That's awesome, the backseats that fold flat down? That's pure awesome. I've actually seen a couple of them with manual transmission on my local Craigslist, one of them was a beat to shit grey market Euro import for $2,500 and then there's this one which is way over my budget.
