Kinja'd!!!

My job has offered me a position in the Bay Area.

Okay so they haven't quite yet officially offered me the position, but they have 3 openings at 3 of our stores and I have been informed my name has been brought up on several regional calls as one of the top contenders for the position.

It would be a title promotion but likely a pay decrease (from commission sales in one of the busiest stores in the region to a salary + performance incentive management role, but upward mobility). They tell me its a cost of living adjustment as well, so I'm likely looking at going from 65-70k on commission to 50 - 55k salary plus incentives (so probably totaling about the same).

The three locations would be Sacramento, Roseville, and Fairfield. I'm aiming, and hoping for Fairfield (as long as they give me the offer I want).

Thoughts or tips on the area(s) from any bay area oppos appreciated.

That is the worst place in America for a car lover. No damn parking ANYWHERE up there. Also a ridiculous cost of living, and that is coming from someone who is used to the ridiculous cost of living in SoCal. It might not be too bad in Sacramento (I don't know, I've never been there) But the SF area is out of the question for what they are offering you.

Check this out. http://qz.com/256910/this-is…

No its not directly in SF, or surrounding area because that was my initial thought and my response was "you can't pay me enough to move there". I looked up the Sacramento area and the Napa valley area (the two areas they are looking to send me) to compare cost of living and it averages out to be about a $5,000 annual increase (compared to SF which is roughly $35,000 annual increase)

You're going to need more funding to keep this baby going.

I grew up and went to college in Davis. Love the city. Surprisingly a lot of car-nuts in Davis for it being "bicycle town U.S.A." or something like that.

Truly, honestly - I think you'll like it. Mountains, desert, [major] city, rural, and suburbs are all within driving distance. Not to mention that blow-your-socks-off rides are within 4 hours of each of those areas. The fucking place, as long as you're mobile, is amazing.

Don't get me wrong - I moved from there to Kauai for other reasons. This place is amazing too, but there's no car culture here because there's no where to go. My fucking commutes there were daily experiences if I'd had a camera to take a shot... you might like it.

I'm in Vallejo/Sonoma/Napa and it's definitely reasonable cost of living. And the weather is fantastic and there are some amazing driving roads that you will LOVE to take the Fiat to. BUT, you won't beable to drive the Fiat unless it is 1975 model year or older (If newer than 1975 biannual smog pass is required). Fairfield doesn't have much going on but people like it and it is close enough to SF and Sac to go there for stuff. The ocean is great and you'd be close to the mountains as well. I'd say go for it.
