!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (read as stupidity). So I got my phone apart and don't think I even broke anything. Everything was going quite smooth until it was time to start putting all the old bits on the new screen. Curses, the cable for the home button doesn't quite fit. The boss on the new screen that the old thermal barrier is supposed to screw into is in the wrong spot. WTF? Shit, ordered the kit for the 5 when I needed the 5S. Now I'm out a phone for another 24 hours until the correct replacement kit shows up and I'm out $50 on the wrong kit. FFFUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!

Kinja'd!!!

It would have been cheaper and more convenient to bring it to the Apple store. If only the nearest one was less than 8 hours away.

Thats how i broke my iphone 5, i blew the speaker, went to replace it, realized i got the speaker for the 5c and took it apart and put it back together too many times, damaging a ribbon cable

I can see that happening and that is why I'm going without a phone until tomorrow. I figure I got incredibly lucky to get it this far without doing major damage, putting it together and taking it apart again is just asking for it.

That's the pain of DIY electronics. But it got me an extra year out of my iPhone 4S. And sometimes you gotta put up with the pain.

Meanwhile, ponder air, water, fire, dirt and fuckin' magnets: how do they work?

Fire is just air and fuel and heat mixed together. Dirt is just mud without water. Water is what you add to dirt to make mud. Magnets are magic or witchcraft, take your pick.

As for my dirt, mud, water logic, I'll let Dilbert take care of that.

I made a spreadsheet rule like this once. It had a fantastic formula for counting who did what and how many and which issues were open and which resolved, and it worked great but occasionally was off by 1 or 2, as in basically everything should balance but sometimes it just didn't. Someone pointed it out. I took a few minutes to ponder where it was going wrong.

Then I added another formula. If the end result equaled anything but zero, then add or subtract to equal zero. BAM. Worked every time. People don't always like real and sometimes they just want clean. I ought to work for NASA.

I got the correct screen and managed to get it installed yesterday. There were some minor issues, but everything is working now.
