Who even drives a Toyota Previa anymore? I hate you!
Well it was just a question of when, not if... Today was my turn. "Lightning Volt" scraped his bum. The guy in the Previa was very amicable about it all, apologized right away. Said he's been doing this commute for years and this is his first time.
Me: "it doesn't look bad, could have been worse. If it wasn't a newer car I probably would let it go but..."
Him: "Yeah, I know. Do whatever you need to do, here take my phone number and let me know, or just contact the insurance company, no problem whatever you decide."
We were fast, professional, exchanged papers and went on our way. He lives pretty close to me, he wasn't even texting or anything!
We were merging onto a slow moving highway, but at a place where it's speeding up. It's a really tricky spot - you have to look ahead, look left, look back, look ahead, look left again... You can't leave too much room or nobody will let you in, you can't be too much of a jerk either because the right lane you are merging into is tight with slow moving cars who d0n't leave any space for the onramp merge-ees.We usually just flow through this merge/onramp pretty well and match highway speed (about 30MPH most days). Today there is a big old beater landscaping pickup truck in front of me blocking the view ahead during the merge, but we weren't going that fast anyway, then suddenly we were stopping short and I was watching his trailer hitch in front of me, saw in my mirror the guy behind me closing in fast... BAM! I guess I didn't leave enough room in front of me today. :( At least I didn't get pushed into the pickup's trailer hitch, that would have really sucked!
It looks cosmetic, but I'm going to have it checked out professionally. I'm kinda torn because I feel up to fixing this one myself and putting the money towards something else, but it's going against the advice I give everyone else when this happens. I would really fix it, not just cash the check and move on... but a sand and spray might really be all this needs. I know how to paint a plastic bumper!
Good things - the guy's attitude was very decent and we both knew the deal. And it could have been a lot worse... Hope your Monday is going better than mine!

aggggghhh the minivan of hell crappy minivans. Every one I've worked on (not many) has been a nightmare of neglect and rusted bolts.

In Toyota-on-Toyota violence; the mid-engined car always wins.

"Who even drives a Toyota Previa anymore? " The previa is mid-engined, AWD, or RWD.... I fail to see why someone wouldn't want to drive this.
