My Dad is in Auckland with a small group, and the guy in charge rented a Camry. Come on, I am not a Camry hater, but why not rent something you can't get here. It's kind of like going to Texas and getting barbecue from Applebee's.

Petrol, so it won't have any torque. And since we're 5 it's going to be fun. Oh and it's, of course, an automatic (the onyl car that was available with a manual was a Subaru Outback I think). It was the cheapest/roomiest car we could find, at 52NZD a day with full cover.

Because a camry will cost you less than 70NZD a day with a full cover. A Legacy Outback is more expensive (think 20NZD more per day). And only a handfull of rental agencies have proper Holden/Ford vehicles, and they are the most expensive ones (budget, avis, hertz, ...)

They do, but they apparently have quite a lot of automatics, and so far I've mostly seen automatics.

THe cheap one through Apex Rental, AboutNZ it's called I think. We should be coming to Rotorua, don't know when yet.

It will only be my second time driving an automatic. The first time was a Q5 with a DSG...

oh, CVT is worst than any automatic. It doesn't shift at all, all it does is pull and never quite reaches there.
Or maybe CVTs have changed. I have an late 1990s Nissan CVT and it's horrible!

Haven't driven it yet... So we'll see. But The biggest issue is going to be torque, I'm used to torquey diesel. It's what I've been driving mostly since I got my licence (The only thing I drove that had less than 200 Nm of torque was my Golf GTI).

I just checked our program once again. We're probably going to be in Rotorua sometime around Tuesday or Wednesday next week. BTW, do you know any nice, cheap (or free) places to camp around Rotorua?
