This generation of Nissan Maxima was offered with a 6-speed manual.
I have this really strange want for this thing. I'd probably be brutally murdered by all of you if I sold the M3 and bought this. Not that I would ever though.
I have a classmate at my tech school whose dad has one of these and let me tell you, it ain't no slouch. And the VQ is still one of the best sounding V6 engines ever I think.

What about the Altima SE-R? DOES NOBODY REMEMBER THOSE?!

Given that the M3 is an auto, probably not as much hate as you would think.
also, I REALLY liked those nissans. Dunno why,

Whenever I see one of these on craigslist it looks like it's been driven HARD for a looong time.

Probably 'cause it has :P

This is true.
I kinda have a soft spot for them too. Maximas in general really.

We have a 2003 in automatic form. It's pretty quick, but I do kind of wish it had the manual, although considering the fact that it's a daily driver and was owned by my now 95 year old grandfather, I can let that slide.

Meh, they're pretty beige actually. Interior is pretty cheap too. Also, it's FWD and it is definitely not going to be a better driving car than the M3.

I always liked how Nissan's of this era felt/drove/handled. Like, even the econobox Versa is a fun car. Dad's GF has one, I swear I've gotten that thing juuuuust barely on three wheels once or twice

For my driving I do on a daily basis, it would be actually. I drive 90% highway and this seems like what these were built for. Hardly ever do I see a curvy road like what the M3 is built for. As for interior cheapness, have you sat in an E36? It's terribad.

... I like it.
Well, its looks at least.

GOOD
I like them too d

The VQ engines sound so good. My Infiniti I30 has the 3.0 and it just sounds great. I love it. My car is basically a maxima, but fancier, but identical powertrain wise. Though mine has a 4 speed auto, I could always do a swap.
That maxima has all the features by the way. For real.

It looked pretty freakin' loaded, but seriously, every option?
God dammit I actually do kinda genuinely want this...

The interior isn't bad by any means in them. And handling, yeah, they're a little floaty.

I had no clue these came with a manual either.
These do have great engines. My friend had one and it was a decent car. Interior was cheap but it was a nice highway cruiser that could hang on back roads.

I have a 2005 350Z.... with the exact same 3.5 litre VQ V6 and 6MT.... I feel like Nissan just took that engine and drivetrain and dumped it in EVERYTHING. Unless Maximas are FWD?
![]() 04/06/2015 at 00:27 |

Maximas are FWD. So they just turned it sideways in this case.

Baaaahahahaa I have an 05 Altima 3.5SL and let me tell you, it does NOT handle. It wallows like a porpoise, and while I hesitate to call the handling numb, it has terrible on-center feel. Then again, THAT MOTOR. That's the real reason I bought that thing...
![]() 04/06/2015 at 00:46 |

I'm extremely curious to know how that thing drives. My 05 Altima 3.5SL is squishy and is good in a straight line, but with that suspension and low-profile tires, it could be an interesting ride.

IDK to be honest

Thanks for the info... I sold my G35 and have always kind of enjoyed the performance of the Sentra SE-R, never knew they made an Altima SE-R! I'd have a hard time justifying owning a used SE-R over a G35 though, but this one is making a valid argument

And yes they did put the engine in everything. Maxima, Altima, Pathfinder, Frontier, Murano, Quest, most of the Infiniti lineup; G35, I35, M35, FX35, QX4........and that's just the VQ35DE. If you expand it to everything based on the VQ, all the VQ30, 35, 40s.... you can trace it all the way back to the mid 90s. And, who knows, it's probably similar enough to the VG and then you can go all the way back to the 300ZX..........

oh god don't remind me. My new Douchbag neighbour has one They moved in 2 weeks ago and Every time he leaves he makes sure everyone on our street knows about it. He has some type of an exhaust or busted muffler. This guy is in his late 20's if not early 30's so how the fuck are you not mature enough to not drive like an ass in your neighbourhood, wait till you get on the main street if you absolutely must be a dick! I loved my new house up until 2 weeks ago. Now I have this terrible gut feeling that I'm gonna hate these neighbours for a long time.
It's bad enough that I'm hoping he loses his job and the bank forecloses on his house.
We went from the sweetest older couple that would bring you over a tray of sweets for christmas to flat brimmed douche central. FML!

Do you know about the Sentra?
Because the previous generation (the one that looks like the above Maxima) comes in a manual, too...

Well, tell us how you really feel.
Seriously though, ouch.

That was me using my inside calm voice. You don't want to hear how I really feel you might be scarred for life I don't think your virgin ears can handle it.
